"What do you mean?"

"I mean I thought I had met you before and it took me some time to make a connection but... Leah do you remember Grace's 18th birthday party?" Brendon prompted.

"Um honestly barely. We were drinking a lot..." I felt a bit self-conscious. That was the first party all of us were 18 so we really made sure to celebrate properly. By properly, I mean getting shitfaced, getting into a fight and having a massive hangover.

"Yeah I remember." He chuckled. Wait he was there and remembered that. I covered my face with my hands as I groaned while he laughed. "But you were so amazing you know that?"

Amazing wasn't an attribute I'd give myself that night. Sloppy? Yes. A mess? Absolutely.

"Okay can we get this over with?" I groaned.

"I don't know I kinda like seeing you blush." He smiles at me which prompted my blush to deepen. "Okay but let me tell you the story of the most awesome girl."

Welp, I hope he's talking about me, otherwise this will be a very awkward conversation.

"So there I was at the party, awkward as hell since I basically didn't know anyone except for Grace. I was close to the drinks station, pouring myself a beer when my insane ex pops right in front of me."

"Wait how was she there?" I couldn't help but ask.

"She came with a friends of Grace and didn't lose any time in making my life miserable." I nodded my head in understanding. "She was spewing the same bullshit about how she was so sorry and that if I really thought about it, it was my fault for not having treated her in a way that would prevent her cheating."

"What the actual fuck?" I couldn't help myself.

"Yeah. So she kept pestering me, trying to grab my attention and overall making my evening hell even after me politely asking her to fuck off. Just seconds before I decide to just leave the party, this smoking hot girl comes by my side, kisses my cheek and says 'there you are babe'. I was a bit lost for words and I couldn't tear my eyes away from her, which made my psycho ex start yelling about how I was cheating on her and that the girl should be ashamed. And do you know what this girl does? She turns to me and says 'I gotcha babe' fills 2 shots, gives me one and downs the other and turns to my psycho ex. 'Just because he can't punch you doesn't mean I won't. Might knock some sense into you.'. My ex being the way she is, continued calling names on both her and me. Which of course made the girl down my shot and straight up punch my ex in the face, making her fall down on the floor. Nursing her hand she turned back to me and asked for me to help her find an ice pack for her hand."

He took my right hand and carefully caressed my knuckles. I was speachless.

"She was starting to bruise a bit but nothing that wouldn't go away in a few days. As we sat outside in the small swing, I helped her with the ice pack as she leaned her head on my shoulder. We didn't talk, we didn't need to, we were just there for each other in comfortable silence. After a bit she lifted her head as she looked me in the eyes. 'You're going to be so much better without that toxic person in your life. I don't know your story but I can see you are hurt. Everything will pass though and you'll be okay.' She said so confidently I just believed her. How could I not? She stood up for me, hell she punched someone for me and looking badass while doing it. I never got her number, I didn't even get her name. I asked Grace but she didn't know."

He lifted my chin, making sure I was looking at him. My head was spinning with all that information.

"That was two years ago but now I can finally thank you Leah." He whispered as if sharing a secret. "You saved me before you even knew me."
