Curtis was having another party at his house to celebrate the victory against the Vipers, I was going with Jeff. Imre and Chris were coming to pick us up from my house because I was still showering and getting ready from after doing nothing in the game.
Yes. I was still pissed. And I was not letting Curtis get off the hook that easily.
I pulled on one of the dresses that were in Imre's large boxes. It was a pink glittered body con dress that came just above my knees. I paired it with white booties and a cropped white denim jacket.
Imre walked in on me finishing my mascara, "Dang girl, your style is killer!" She was wearing a turquoise tube top with bootleg jeans and hightop converse.
"All thanks to you," I winked at her through the mirror. "Now I am ready, so let's go!"
"Yay!" Imre giggled and we danced down the stairs out to Chris's car.
We parked on the down street from Curtis's house again and walked up the lawn. We could already hear the music. Me and Imre walked in first with our arms linked and Jeff was waiting for us right inside like he said he would be.
"Hey stranger!" I said before giving him a side hug.
"That dress.." his eyes were bugged out, "is just... woah."
"You mean me, haha yeah thanks," I winked at him. "Now let's go dance!"
"Yes ma'am!" The three of them said and trailed me into the living room where people were dancing.
The second I walked in my eyes went to the two people in the center of the dance floor; Curtis's arms were wrapped around Prudence and a pang of jealousy went through me. I pushed it down because tonight was my night was to have fun and not think of anything else.
I grabbed a drink with my right hand and Jeff's arm with the other. I swayed to the music and let the beat drown out all of my thoughts. It's going to be a good night.
Before I knew it, it was 2am and people were starting to leave. The whole night had gone by in a blur and I wasn't tired even a bit. I sighed and walked into the kitchen to grab a bottle of water. I almost ran into Curtis who was emptying cans and throwing cups away.
"Oh, my bad," I grabbed one of the cups and filled it up in the sink. I looked over at him but he barely seemed to have noticed me.
"Soooooo, how was your night?" I questioned him.
He shut the trash can lid and turned to face me, "Prudence told me she loved me."
I almost choked on the water going down my throat. What was I supposed to say?? I couldn't make a big deal out of this but also like, should I??
"Wow. That's great," was all I could say.
"Great..? You're kidding right?" He looked at me expectantly.
"Uhhmmm, congratulations?" I laughed a little, "Did you say it back?" I hopped up and sat on the edge of the counter.
He shook his head and walked toward the mess next to me, "Well.... I mean yeah, but... is that ok?"
Doesn't he have his bro's he can talk to about this stuff? I really don't care and don't want to know. Well, I take that back, I kind of want to know. Especially after everything that happened between us, and now all of sudden he's in love with Prudence? Men are so complicated.
I decided to give him my 'best friend' advice. "Yeah, it's ok if you truly feel that way I guess. Just be honest and communicate how you feel."
He pondered that for a bit while I finished my water. I got tired of waiting for a response and decided to find Jeff. I jumped off the counter and threw my cup in the trash. I was rounding the corner when I heard Curtis call my name.
"Robin, wait." I paused and turned around.
"What," I put my hand on my hip impatiently.
"Thank you," he half smiled at me, "for the advice I mean."
I almost laughed, but all I could do was nod.
"I think you should try using your own advice too," he raised an eyebrow.
I opened my mouth to say something I probably shouldn't.
Then I closed it.
"Goodnight, Curtis." I walked out of the room.
________
Monday practice rolled around and I was ready to focus on something other than anything but football.
I was jogging out to the field when I saw a tall, built man standing next to coach. I had never seen him in my life, but he was wearing one of our jerseys.
I frowned as I took a knee next to Jeff. We all had our helmets on, waiting for coach to explain.
"Alright team, I hope you are all ready for a tough week and are prepared to bring it," Coach said with a blinding smile.
We all slightly nodded, still waiting.
"Also, I am pleased to announce this fine, young man will be joining our team for the rest of the season, so please give him a big welcome!" He turned and gave him a nod.
He stepped up a little in front of coach and revealed pearly white teeth, "Hello, my name is Dominique."
