Frozen.

Something snapped me out of it and my wit came rushing back.

"Guess I'm already falling' for you," I joke poking my finger into Jeff's chest. Then I push myself forward and give him a wink and I walk past him to the door. "Ladies first," I say opening it and waving my hand at all of them.

I'm return with blank stares, until they all look at each other and break into laughter. I mentally sighed with relief, glad whatever awkward or tension had existed was gone.

They all shuffled out the door before I happily followed, locking the bolt behind me.

________

Once we got to the school, Chris and Jeff got out quickly and came back to open my and Imre's doors. I grabbed Jeff's hand for support and stepped out. But even after I was standing and ready, he didn't let go.

I let it be for a few moments before I pretended to fix my hair, so I removed my hand from his grasp. We walked in behind Imre and Chris, and I couldn't stop thinking about how cute they were together. I allowed myself to hook my arm around Jeff's but nothing more, because we were only going to this dance as friends.

_______

We walked into the dance, seeing the lights and hearing the music already from outside. Although it had just started, it was still already very full. There was a table with food to the right and drinks to the left. Tables were scattered around the outside and the DJ's stand and dance floor were in the center.

A couple people looked over at us when we walked in, many stared at me, but I think it's because they just didn't recognize me at all.

Me and Imre took off our heels and set them at a table with the boy's jackets, then we headed for the dance floor.

We all danced the night away. It was bliss; Jeff's hands around me holding my hips as we swayed to the beat.

Imre and Chris molded together moving perfectly in unison. Something I had never noticed nagged at my heart- a longing- for the passion one person has for another. I quickly shook it off remembering my need for independence.

Pounding interrupted the music as a microphone screamed to life, "Attention all high schoolers, in a few moments we will be announcing your choice for Homecoming King and Queen. We ask that after they are announced, they proceed to the center of the floor for the traditional dance."

Jeff and I looked at each other and I rolled my eyes, "This is so stupid, I didn't even know when or where people voted."

He laughed at me, "Probably because you were too busy practicing somewhere."

I playfully shoved him and glared back, "How else do you think I got a body this good," I added a smirk for good measure.

His eyes swirled with lust and he pulled me in closer. Our faces were so close I could hear his breath.

As he leaned in I panicked, "Too bad I don't go out more often," I stammered. And with that I pulled myself away from him, grabbed Imre and headed for the drink station.

"Whaaaat," Imre complained, "did you not see how perfect me and Chris were??"

"Yes, I know, I'm really sorry," I said genuinely, "you two really are meant for each other. But also I had to get you because I don't know what to do."

"What do you mean...." she wavered.

"Uhm, he like," I sputtered.

"Tried to kiss you," she finished for me.

"Yes! How did you know! Did you see it??" I stammered.

"No. But it is completely obvious how much he likes you," she giggled. "He's had a little crush since almost the beginning of the year. You'd have to be completely oblivious not to notice."

Well.... a little crush? More like a big one. I didn't know what to say. "What the heck do I do then??" I questioned.

"I think-" Imre was cut off by the mic buzzing.

"Now to announce the Homecoming King and Queen. As a reminder when announced please come to the center of the dance floor."

Imre gave me a sorry look and mouthed that we would talk ASAP.

"Your Homecoming King is----- Curtis! Congratulations!"

I looked into the crowd and could see Curtis's head above the others as he made his way to the middle, a winning smile plastered across his face.

"And now, your Homecoming Queen is----- Robin! Congratulations!"
