December was nearly over, Christmas was almost here. And Missy had yet to go look st Christmas lights. Which is why, when EJ asked if her and Ashlyn wanted to go, she quickly said yes.
Ashlyn declined, claiming to have previously scheduled plans with Big Red. Missy was slightly less enthusiastic after hearing that, glad her friend was happy but disappointed it was just her and EJ.
"There's a new Christmas drive through, Ashlyn told me about." EJ said, glancing over at Missy as she buckled up. "I figured we could drive through there, if you wanted, then check out the local neighborhoods."
"Sounds perfect." She smiled at him, leaning back in her seat as she looked at him. "I'm down for whatever."
That's what they did, they went through the Christmas lights drive through, and they checked out some nearby neighborhoods, before heading back to Ashlyn's.
The entire evening had went smoothly, until they parked. Neither EJ nor Missy made a move to get out of the car, neither looked at eachother, neither said anything.
"That's for taking me to look at Christmas lights."
"Oh no problem, it was fun. As always." He laughed quietly, shrugging as he looked at her.
Subconsciously he brushed a strand of hair off her face, resting his hand on her cheek. She didn't move for a while, and when she did, she leaned forwards.
Connecting her lips with EJ's in a kiss.
EJ brought his other hand up to Missy's face, deepening the kiss, it was only after a few minutes that they pulled away from eachother.
"So your date with Ricky?…"
"We're just friends." Missy chuckled quietly, leaning back in the seat as she intertwined a hand with EJ's as he removed them from her face.
"Oh...so the kiss?"
"Innocent." She simply shrugged, smiling at him. EJ looked down at their hands.
"Does that mean I have a chance?"
"EJ, I've told you. I don't want to ruin our friendship."
"But you're willing to risk your friendship with Ricky?"
"Ricky and I aren't that close." Missy said. "You're my best friends cousin, and one of my best friends. Ricky is just a friend, we've been over this a thousand times."
"Then explain to me why you kiss me like you do? Friends don't kiss like that. Friends don't kiss."
"I like it. Kissing you doesn't weird me out or anything."
"So? Sounds like you like me."
"Don't be daft."
"Missy-"
"I'm going in."
EJ didn't have time to say anything else before Missy got out and quickly made her way to the front door.
He sighed, shaking his head before getting out right as Ashlyn pulled in. He pushed his hands deep into his pockets, waiting for her.
"How was the lights?"
"Eh."
"How are you?"
"Eh."
"Alright... Is something wrong?"
"Okay, rhetorically, if someone liked you but refused to admit it to themselves, what could be wrong? would it be you or them?"
"Honestly could be either or, could you tell me more about this situation?"
"No."
