EJ pulled his bag out from the backseat, breathing in sharply as he closed the door, walking up to Ashlyn's house.

He opened the door, instantly seeing Missy sitting on the couch. She glanced up from the book she was reading, ready to greet whoever was walking in, but quickly looked back down when she realized it was EJ.

EJ rolled his eyes, annoyed that she was still him. "Missy, you can't just not talk to-"

Missy stood up, closing her book. "I mean, I can.…" She looked at the dark haired boy, chewing on her lip.

"Missy, it was just a kiss I mean, come on… it was an accident." EJ stepped into the house, closing the door behind him as he stepped towards Missy. "I understand that you don't have feelings for me, but we've been friends for a long time..."

"Let's just drop it, pretend it never happened. Please." Missy's eyes pleaded with him. EJ noticed how sad she looked,  he didn't know she disliked the kiss that much.

"Fine… okay."

"Anyways, what are you doing here?"

"Annual Attorney Christmas get away."

"Oh, cool." Missy nodded absentmindedly, as she turned and walked into the kitchen. She sniffed, clearing her throat.

Ashlyn passed Missy as she walked out of the kitchen, sending her a sympathetic smile which EJ caught.

He furrowed his brow in confusion, catching Ashlyn's eye. She walked over to his, lowering her voice. "Her aunt is getting worse, and her parents won't let her travel over there because cases are growing rapidly."

"So that's what that was about-"

"That's what, what was about?" This time, Ashlyn's brows furrowed as she looked up at her cousin.

"Oh, it's nothing." EJ shook his head, looking at Missy in the kitchen. He understood why she got so upset, it wasn't him.

"Still don't believe you."

"Believe what?" Missy asked as she walked back into the living room, sitting back down on the couch.

"Nothing."

"Alright." She glanced sideways at them as she walked back to Ashlyn's room, grabbing her headphones.

She plugged them in, signing as a tear slipped down her cheek. She didn't even feel like crying, but she couldn't help it. It was very likely that her aunt wouldn't make it much longer, according to her mother, and she couldn't even go and see her.

A quiet knock sounded at the door and naturally, Missy assumed it was Ashlyn. But when whoever walked in cleared their throat, she knew who it was. "I don't want to talk about it."

"You don't have to talk, Missy." EJ sat down beside her, running his fingertips through her hair as she laid there, not moving. More tears fell as she laid there, not saying a thing, nor moving. "Just know that I'm here for you."

"You're an amazing friend, EJ."

He smiled softly, his laugh coming out as more of a scoff then he had intended it to, but Missy didn't seem to notice. He leaned against the wall, stroking her hair gently, looking at the door intently.

Neither moved until Missy was sound asleep, EJ close to being asleep too when he slowly stood up out of bed. He draped a blanket over her, glancing at her once more before walking out of the room.

"Is she okay? You were in there for quite awhile."

"Yeah, yeah I think she's okay now." EJ nodded, sitting down on the couch, shrugging as he looked at his cousin. "She's asleep now."

"Good, I don't think she's been getting much rest recently, she looks tired, like very very tired." Ashlyn said she looked back towards her door. "She needs this rest."
