Chapter 18: Proposal

Laura's POV

After Becca and Obsidian leave, I close up the studio for the night, gather my belongings and teleport to my apartment in Canada. That's when I receive a text from Carm.

TotallyAwesomeVamp🧛‍♀️: Hey, cupcake, you ready for our date tonight?

PrincessOfCreampuffs: Yup. What should I wear?

TotallyAwesomeVamp🧛‍♀️: I've had one of my friends sew you a dress that looks like it's from 1698.

PrincessOfCreampuffs: Ooh, taking me to a fancy restaurant, aren't we Carm?

TotallyAwesomeVamp🧛‍♀️: Only the best for my creampuff.

I put my phone down and begin to get ready for our date, putting on the silky blue dress.

Carmilla's POV

"I'm so nervous," I say to my sister as we pull up to the apartment.

"Don't be ridiculous, Kitty," Mattie says, resting a hand on my shoulder. "This is Laura we're talking about. The same Laura who threw away her own morals and even gave up her life to save you."

Matska's right. Laura and I had been through pretty much everything together. Our love is too strong to pull us apart again.

"You're right," I say as I hop out of the car. "I'll let you know how it goes."

"I can't wait to hear all about it, Mircalla," Mattie says. "Oh, look at the time! I'm sorry for having to leave so suddenly, but Danny's taking me out golfing. Apparently she owns this country club and golf course."

"Wait, you're dating Xena?" I ask, surprised. Mattie giggles. I'd never seen her this happy before. As long as I could remember, she'd always considered emotions to be unnecessary.

"Ironic, isn't it, that the redhead who killed me ended up falling for me?" she asks. We wave goodbye and Mattie drives off to pick up her girlfriend. I walk up to the door of the apartment, knocking twice. Laura opens the door after a few seconds.

Laura's POV

I open the door, and Carm's outside. She's wearing the same style of dress that I'm wearing, only hers is black.

"Wow, Carm, you look absolutely stunning," I say as I smile at her.

"I could say the same about you," she replies. She gives me a quick kiss before taking my hand in hers. We teleport in a cloud of black smoke and arrive in Styria, where a horse-drawn carriage is waiting for us. My hands fly to my mouth in surprise.

"Carm, I don't know what to say," I admit.

"You don't have to say anything," she says as she kisses my forehead. "Now come on, we've got a carriage to ride."

The ride is decently smooth. Before long, we arrive at an old castle that's been refurbished into a restaurant. All the guests are wearing outfits that are similar to ours.

"Surprised, creampuff?" Carmilla asks. "I had this place rebuilt myself. It's a restaurant that caters to vampires."

As soon as we are seated at a table, and have received two glasses of blood, we order our food. Carm orders a beef brisket. I go for a plate of pork ribs.

*time skip*

I'm about halfway done with my last rib when Carm gets down on one knee.

"Laura," she says, "I love you. I know it may not seem like much of anything to say, but for me, it's enough. We've been through a lot together. We've defeated Maman, twice, broken up and rekindled our love. We've killed for each other and we've died for each other. You've brought light into the darkness that was once my world, and I couldn't ask for anyone else to spend my centuries of undeath with." Carm pulls out a small black box and opens it, revealing the most beautiful diamond ring I'd ever seen. I gasp, my hands flying to my face and my eyes watering.

"Laura Eileen Hollis, will you marry me?" Carm asks. I take a moment to wipe my face clean of any blood and other food.

"YES!" I squeal, quickly capturing Carmilla's lips in a passionate kiss. She pulls back, surprised.

"Did you say..." she begins, but I interrupt her.

"All the yeses in the world, Carm," I say as I offer my right hand to her, pulling out a black box of my own. Carm lets out a laugh.

"Seems we had the same idea, cupcake," she says as we slip the rings onto each other's fingers. The rest of the night, we dance some slow dances, gazing into each other's eyes with nothing but love in our own. I flash a fanged smile at her, and she does the same.
