After I finish up at the doctors office, I head out to my car and call Sammy.
"Hey Sammy." I say, a little cheerful a little unhappy.
"Hey babe. What'd ya find out?"
"I'm almost two months along." I sigh.
"What are you gonna do?"
"I'm not sure yet...." I half smile, faking a good mood. "Ughhh. This sucks. Sammy, I saw the baby. The tiny bean of a baby that's inside me. I heard it's fucking heartbeat." I say beginning to cry a bit.
"It'll be okay. I promise. You'll get through it. You and Jack can get through it I promise."
"I don't know Sammy. I'm really scared. I'm really scared that he's gonna leave me. I'm afraid he's gonna be like, 'sorry I don't want a kid see ya!' And just leave." I say, crying a bit harder into the phone.
"Okay babe, I'm gonna meet you at your house and stay with you because I know you're not okay right now."
"Okay." I say, pausing my tears. "Thank you Sammy for everything."
"No problem. I'll see you soon."
"See you."
"Bye."
"Bye." We both hang up at the same time and I set my phone in this little space above my radio and hook my seatbelt before turning the car on, putting it in drive and leaving the parking lot of the doctor's office. I drive home, sniffling a bunch.
When I get to the apartment, Sammy is there standing at my door. He immediately pulls me into a hug, concern written on his handsome face.
"How are you feeling?" He asks.
"I'm okay I guess." I reply, my cheek against his chest.
After we end our hug, I unlock my door and we head into my apartment. "I wish Jack were home already. I miss him so much and I know he misses me too."
"Yeah. I'm sure he does miss you." Sammy replies, a weird edge in his voice, almost sarcastic......
"What do you mean? You sounded almost sarcastic." I ask.
"Nothing. Sorry. Basically I meant that he would be stupid to not miss you."
"Oh. Okay." I reply.
"In other news.... How has your day been other than the whole pregnancy stuff?" Sammy asks, awkwardly changing the subject.
"Ummmm. Good?" I reply with a laugh.
"That's good."
"Sammy.... Why are you acting strange?"
"I'm not acting strange..... But hey, don't go on Twitter."
"Why not?" I ask curiously, suddenly wanting to check it.
"Just don't. It's a surprise till tomorrow.... Or later. It's a surprise for later."
"Sammy, tell me the truth. What's up?"
He looks a little sad and a little bit pissed off.
"If I tell you, you have to swear not to freak out on Jack and you have to act like you don't know, okay?"
I suddenly become very worried. "Okay Sammy. I promise."
"Harper, I think Jack's cheating on you....."
And with those four little words, I feel my world begin to come crashing down.
