Nini was beginning to think meeting Kourtney at the food court was a bad idea. Everyone was staring at her. She was relieved when she saw Kourtney rushing up to her.
"So what's up Nin's? You sounded upset on the phone."
Nini opened her mouth to answer but stopped, still feeling all eyes on her. She stood and grabbed Kourt's hand.
"Not here." she said, grimacing as cellphone cameras flashed around her.
She dragged Kourt out to her car, cursing when she spotted a photographer a few cars down.
"I can't believe he likes this." she muttered, turning on the car.
"What did you say?" Kourtney said, getting in.
"Being famous sucks. I don't know how Ricky takes this." Nini said as they left the mall.
They ended up at a small café that was nearly empty. They sat down in the corner.
"What's going on Nins?"
"Oh, just a lot." Nini said casually.
"Don't keep me on edge. What happened?"
Nini told her about Taylor and her Dave first. Kourt hugged her sympathetically. Then she told her about Ricky being there.
"What did he want?" Kourt asked, snacking on the nacho appetizer they had ordered.
"A song."
"Really. That's cool. You are an incredible song writer, girl."
"I told him no."
Kourt punched her arm and Nini let out a yelp.
"Now why would you go and say that Nina Salazar-Roberts!" Kourtney scolded.
"My songs are private Kourt!"
"So write one that isn't! Write one just for Ricky." Kourtney said as if it were that simple.
"My songs aren't that good." Nini said, absently dipping a chip in salsa.
"Your right Nins, they're not."
Nini stopped mid-bite.
"Well, ow, Kourt."
"I mean your songs are better than good. They're amazing." Kourtney explained, "It would be even better if a famous singer was singing them."
Nini shook her head. But Kourt nodded.
"Give it a try. Promise me you'll give it a try."
Nini sighed. She knew Kourtney wasn't going to let this go.
"Fine. I'll try."
"Good. Now, what else." Kourt asked as their meal was served.
"EJ showed up while Ricky was there."
Kourtney spit out her food all over Nini.
"Get out of town!" Kourtney yelled, "Oh, sorry."
"Geez Kourt." Nini brushed herself off, "Yeah."
"Oh, what was it like. Tell me everything." Kourt gushed.
"Well, I accidentally told Ricky about EJ hitting me."
"Bastard." Kourtney said coldly, "I'm sorry. Continue."
"Well, EJ got the letter from my lawyer and came to ask me how I could afford such a lawyer. He then insinuated that I was sleeping around for extra money. Ricky slammed him into the banister and told him to get lost and not to contact me again unless he was there." Nini explained.
Kourt giggled and fanned herself with her hand.
"That's hot." she said.
Nini turned red.
"No it's not. It was ridiculous. Caveman-ish. It was-"
"H-o-t, hot." Kourt continued to giggle.
"You are impossible Kourtney Renee Grenne!" Nini said, but couldn't help but smile.
"Admit it Nini. Despite your father and EJ, you are having fun." Kourtney said.
"A little." was all she was going to admit, "Come on, we gotta go."
