"HAZE, GET THE FUCK OUT!" I pushed the door in an attempt to shut it tight.
"Why can't I see my own wife?"
"She is not your wife yet, dumbass," I snapped and leaned my back against the door to push back with more strength. Haze was applying enormous pressure from outside so I couldn't really shut the door. The opposing force was just too much.
"Stace, I want to see you!" He said and she giggled lightly, not bothering to lend me a hand to block her fiance out. She was sitting on a chair in front of the mirror as a stylist did her hair and another one applied makeup.
"It's bad luck if you see your wife-to-be before the wedding," I heard a voice come from the other side and I felt as if someone tugged my heartstrings. Stacey saw me from the corner of the eye and gave me a pathetic look. Well, I was in love with a man who didn't love me back. It was pathetic.
I gasped as I realized what I'd just thought. Love. Was I in love with Jayce? Or was it the fact that he was harder to reach that made my feelings intense?
"Jayce, that's some stone age tradition. No one follows that anymore. Why are you all making this a big deal?" Haze demanded.
"We don't care about traditions. It's about wedding photographs. If you see her now, we won't have the chance to see your jaw dropping on the floor when you see her walking down the aisle. We want to capture that first look, you know," I explained and I heard Haze heave a sigh. A swirl of uncertainty and anticipation settled in my chest. Did he really not return my feelings? I wanted to break down and cry but it was Stacey's day. I couldn't do that to her.
I poked my head through the space in the door and looked at Haze. He had a defeated look. "Patience is key," I said and he lightly flicked my head.
"You are very annoying sometimes," he said and I stuck my tongue at him. "And incredibly immature," he added.
Jayce chuckled behind Haze and I felt my chest tighten. I saw him for the first time that day. He was dressed in a terracotta colored textured suit with a handsome tie. His dark hair looked like it had undergone several attempts of being styled to perfection but the tiny strands were stubborn to stick out here and there. He had a clean shave for the occasion and even though I liked him with the day-old stubble, he looked handsome. His blue eyes sparkled with extra shine today.
"Hey," I said and he stepped closer.
"Okay, I'll leave you two to it," Haze said, sneaking in a wink at Jayce. He rolled his eyes and then dragged his attention back to me.
"Am I not allowed to see you too? Like the full you?" he said, referring to the fact that it was only my face he could see. The rest of my body was hidden behind the door.
"Um...no. You'll see me when I walk down with the others before Stacey comes," I said.
"But with what I am seeing now, you look gorgeous," he said, pointing to my hair-do. I had my hair in a complicated, flowery bun with strands of hair pulled out in between braids to look messy and graceful at the same time.
"Thank you. You look perfect," I said, smiling.
"Just kiss already, dammit!" Stacey screamed from inside and I turned red. Jayce bit his lip, trapping the smile tugging on the end of his mouth. I couldn't face him.
