Heatherfoot stared down with glazed lavender eyes at the two bundles of fur in her nest. The two kits' flanks rose and fell in rhythm with each other, and the larger kit let out a small sigh.
"They're perfect." Heatherfoot whispered, eyes tearing up. Her heart swelled with pride and love for the two toms bundled together, the small dark brown tabby tom resting his upper half over his littermate's body as they slept. There was a soft purr that erupted from the nest beside Heatherfoot's, and the brown she-cat looked over at Moonclaw as the queen stared down into her nest.
"They always are. I remember my first litter, how they were so perfect. Every litter of kits is special, but the first one always seems to be the most breath-taking." She mewed, curling her tail over two small kits nestled against her belly. Heatherfoot purred and stared at Moonclaw with proud lavender eyes.
"I hope our kits will be great friends one day." She mewed hopefully, looking back down at her two small kits.
"What did you decide to name them?" Ivywhisker mewed softly, her eyes drooping sleepily as the two kits in her nest gave out tiny huffs of breath as they squirmed closer to their mother.
"The larger one is Leafkit, after my father, and the tabby one is Bramblekit, after my brother." The brown queen replied, eyes still locked on the two sleeping kits.
"So you already named them." A deep mew sounded behind Heatherfoot and she craned her neck to meet the blue eyes of her mate. The grey tabby tom padded closer to the nest and peered at the kits silently. Heatherfoot stared down at the two sleeping toms with pride.
"I did. Aren't they wonderful, Blacktalon?" She mewed softly. There was only a huff before the warrior turned and started padding away. Petalfur exchanged a glance with Dawnfur and the pale ginger queen looked at Heatherfoot with sympathy.
"Heatherfoot, just because Blacktalon doesn't like them, doesn't mean that they aren't good. Who knows, maybe they'll become one of the strongest in the clan!" She mewed reassuringly. Heatherfoot blinked and looked at Petalfur with determined lavender eyes.
"I will always think they're perfect. I don't care if Blacktalon thinks they aren't worth anything, he has bees in his brain. Once they grow up, he'll see that they're wonderful like I do." She mewed, licking Leafkit on the head gently.
Sleep now, my little ones, she thought.
You'll show him that you're amazing, I know it.
