"Apex, report to duty immediately," came the noise blasting through the speakers on the dark blue roof of the room.
Bunk beds were scattered around with pillows all over the place mixed in the pile of clothes. Surrounding it were lockers with holes from the fights that happen every night.
He stood up from the bed, sheets well spread and pillow in place along with a few folded shirts in case of an immediate task.
"Looks like someone is in trouble!" roared the 7 foot giant macho, Latino Jose, as the laughs erupted filling the room with the unpleasant noise.
Walking past the Jose, Apex ignored the laughter his colleagues were enjoying, going straight for the exit of the room.
Opening the door, it revealed none other than an old man, his mentor Sergeant Garcia, roughly at his sixties not wanting to retire despite his white hair and various wrinkles. A smile stretched on his face as the wrinkles sunk into his skin and a dimple formed at the end of his lips.
"Son, today is a big day," came the soft words as the old man extended his arms for a handshake instead of a salute. "I am very proud of you Reyes, and I am sure your parents would be too." A tear formed in his already wet eyes filled with pride although the old man was not his father but he took the place of one.
"Thank you sir!" Raising his hands towards his head, he saluted as his boots clicked together, Apex went on to follow him.
He looked at the familiar white tiles, walls and the floors of mahogany wood which were imported from Africa, which were arranged in vertical and horizontal squares, as he passed. It made the floor a huge checkers board of brown and black boxes.
Checking the hallway for the signs, arrows pointing different directions. Apex looked at the familiar arrow pointing to the right with 'Chief Sergeant Williams' engraved in black. He walked towards it as always, awaiting his turn to report his mission, to only have a hand stop him from advancing.
"Not there today son," spoke Garcia with a smile plastered on his face which didn't seem to have left since he had seen Apex. He showed him the path to take, pointing to the left.
Not sure what was going on, Apex turned around to look at the sign, an arrow with red ink engraved saying "CEO's OFFICE." His eyes widened as he processed and inhaled the new air he was trying to grasp. It was either the fact that he was going to go for a high profile mission or it was his last day in Atlas.
He looked towards Garcia who stood firm in his position showing no sign of movement, but his face encouraged him to go towards the dark brown painted alley with black tiles all over the floor- a version of a scary Halloween entrance to the Haunted House.
Talking baby steps towards the left, as his heart beat faster about to explode and leave his body, he began to go towards the door. The few meters seemed like the walk to the top of the Kilimanjaro except that it was a hallway with all dark sorts of tiles, painting and lightings.
Knocking lightly on the door, Apex entered as the door opened by a man in full suit with fancy Italian shoes, Bluetooth headset on his ears and a black glass of Levi's. The only time people like these were seen were in movies like Men in Black and Crime Series as they were all undercover agents.
The CEO was seated in his wooden table with a MacBook placed on the center. One hand was on the mouse as he focused on the screen in front of him. Two gentleman stood on guard next to him all like the previous guards that opened the door.
The silence in the room made it possible for his heart beat drumming in his chest to be heard.
"Apex, have a seat," the CEO spoke calmly lifting his eyes from his MacBook for a mere second while pointing to the soft sofa type chair in front of his desk.
He took a look around, seeing the cream wallpaper around the wall with various frames of portraits of the Generals all arranged in horizontal order. An aquarium was located at the end of the room with tiny golden fish swimming around.
Sighing and taking deep breath of the lemon aroma in the air, Apex sat down although his legs kept on shaking. Both hands kept on moving and while trying to avoid the shame, he was forced to scratch the soft silky fur on the cushion of the sofa-chair.
"Calm down soldier, you are not fired," spoke the CEO obviously noticing the unnecessary fidgeting and movement of his soldier.
A sigh of relief washed over as his chest went back to its normal position and Apex went back to being chill and calm.
The last words of his father were, "Never stop supporting the oppressed no matter how strong the oppressors are." After, he was shot in a gang war occurring in the streets of his neighbourhood.
Keeping his father's last will and words alive was what was kept him moving forward, helping the weak and trying to save humanity.
"You have been called to this office today for pressing matters. Your training has been perfect and your talent is out of the world. It is time for you to step up your game and join the real ranks," spoke the CEO startling Apex from his deep thoughts.
"We have assigned you a mission. It is only allowed for a Level 8 ranked officer to know the basis and a Level 9 ranked officer to support you during hard times. All information and intel gathered must be reported to a Level 10 ranked officer. I repeat a Level 10 ranked officer."
Already staring at him intensely the CEO kept on speaking as his eyes showed determination and authority.
"Hold on a minute. Get the volume higher, Now!" roared the CEO staring at the 128" flat screen tv.
"ISIS have reportedly killed 15 young teenagers for watching football," spoke the anchor Angela Webster from the 9am News Channel.
"That is where you are heading, to infiltrate ISIS," spoke the CEO as he switched the tv off.
"You will undergo training for 3 months, learning Arabic, the Holy Quran and the rules of Islam. You need to be prepared to counter any claim they have against you at any moment." Taking a sip of his cold apple juice, he went back to stare at Apex making eye contact with him.
"You will have no back up, no CIA and no NATO. Nobody is our friend. The Americans bombarded them yesterday and today are supplying weapons.
Your main targets are: Former CIA Head of Intelligence John the English and ISIS Leader CIA and MOSSAD trained Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi," he said as he threw the two files towards Apex, revealing all the data and information Atlas had on them.
"Study them tonight, learn it by heart and begin to think like them, act like them, speak like them. You are no longer a soldier at Atlas. You are Special Agent Apex promoted to Level 10."
The CEO ended as he closed the laptop and smiled showing encouragement towards Apex, wishing him the best.
