Chapter Nine

Best Scenery

"Why do you love sunsets so much?" He asked while I remain my stare at the beautiful view in front of us.  

It is breathtaking... seeing how the sun goes down as if it is resting like he finished his duty for the day and now he can finally tuck himself to sleep.

I shrugged at him. "There is nothing beautiful than the sunset," I said instead.

But he didn't know that sunset with him is a lot more beautiful. Tahimik akong nakatingin sa tanawin sa harapan namin nang bigla siyang magsalita ulit. 

"Yeah, there's nothing beautiful than the scenery right now," he said but I can feel his stares. 

I smirked at glanced at him. His lips were pursued and his gray eyes were piercing right through me. I can't help but stare at him back. And we both chuckled after doing that for whole five minutes.

"Let's go back, the sun's down already," I nodded  and he lightly touched my back to guide me towards the chamber I am in.

"You rest, okay? It's our last day tomorrow but there are times when events are held without any notice."

I nodded. "Okay lang, nasa labas lang naman ako kapag nagkaroon bigla. Tska-," I stopped talking when he shook his head.

"Lahat kasama sa loob, Arlaise. It was like their farewell party," he said which made me confused.

"Huh? Bakit sa ibang pinuntahan natin hindi naman ganoon?"

He scratched his head lightly. "It's some sort of tradition... in the last destination, a farewell party will be held."

Something's sketchy about his statement. He seems unsure about his statement. Iyong parang binubuo pa lang niya ang sasabihin sa utak niya kaya pahinto-hinto siya magsalita. 

"Alright, Your Highness. Retire to your chambers as well." 

He nodded. I was waiting for him to turn his back but he didn't. He stayed... staring at me like he wants to do something but he is hesitating. Then he shook his head and smiled before doing what I expected him to do in the first place.

When I closed the door to my chamber, I went to my bed and sat in an Indian sit position. "What are you doing, Arlaise? What are you getting yourself into?"

This isn't my plan, to begin with. I tried to escape from his eyes that kept on drowning me but I failed. That is why I wanted to keep my distance, to push him away because I know how dangerous this path is.

This is forbidden!

We live in different worlds. His life is something I can never reach. I know that the moment I stepped inside the Palace. 

But I still let myself fall into this trap.

Wala pang isang buwan... pero pakiramdam ko ang tagal ko na siyang kilala. It was so easy to get to know him, so easy to get drawn in his eyes, and so easy to be trapped in his stares.

"Fuck this life," I muttered and I combed my hair in frustration.

Hindi ko alam kung paano ako nakatulog na dala ang alalahanin na iyon. Nagising na lang ako nang may naramdaman akong humahawak sa pisngi ko. 

I slowly opened my eyes and saw Izaac looking at me. The look in his eyes is so soft like I wanted to melt with it. "How did you enter my room?" I asked, my voice is still husky because I just woke up.

I bet my life my face is a mess as well. But he doesn't seem to mind my just-woke-up look. I sat up and combed my hair.  

"How can you be so beautiful in the morning?"

I rolled my eyes and stood up to go to washroom. "Scam talaga yon! Beautiful daw." My hair looks like a birds' nest! There is still some signs of sleep in my face like the marks left by my hair. 

After washing my hair and brushing my teeth, I went straight to the closet beside my bed to get some clothes. Nakakahiyang tumabi sa Unang Prinsipe na ganito ang itsura ko.

I took a bath and dressed up inside. When I went out, nakahiga na siya sa kama at nakatingin sa kisame. It looks like he is deep in thoughts. Dahan-dahan akong naglakad at umupo sa tabi niya, doon lang siya napatingin sa akin.

"What were you thinking?"

He sat up and faced me. "Just things. I wonder what will happen once we go back to the Palace. We have to follow the rules once again which means I have to keep my distance again from you."

He sounded sad, almost devastated, kaya hindi ko mapigilang mapangiti sa itsura niya.

"Stop overreacting, Izaac. If I know, you will bother me at school so don't use that line on me," I said and pointed his forehead. 

Natawa siya at tumayo na sa kama. "I'm going to get changed," he said and I nodded.

Matapos niyang lumabas ay tumayo na din ako sa kama para tignan ang itsura ko. I'm just wearing a simple translucent long sleeve polo and white high waits shorts to tuck in the top. 

I'm supposed to wear my uniform from the Palace which is black long sleeves polo and skirt. It is the uniform of the attendants of the Society. The only difference of every clan was the logo on the left side of the top.

But Izaac insisted to use casual clothes because he doesn't anyone to know he is a Royalty. Mas gusto daw niyang lie-low kapag ganito para mas makita niya kung ano talaga ang sitwasyon because people tend to pretend whenever a Royalty visits their place.

After the inspection, bumalik din kami agad dahil ihahanda pa namin ang gamit pauwi. I was fixing my things when I heard a knock. 

When I opened the door, it was Izaac, holding a rectangular box.

"I warned you already..." he started kaya napakunot ang noo ko.

Then it clicked. The box and the time... so there's a farewell event? I accepted the box without any questions. 

"You seem tired, I'm sorry," he said.

It's true, I'm kind of tired but it's my duty. "I'll just fix myself," simple kong sabi bago tumalikod.

It's elegant. The dress is champagne colored above knee dress with a strap on the shoulders but it was off-shoulders. A piece of lace is placed on top which served as the detail of the dress.

After pinning my hair into a bun, I wore silver heels to match the dress. I didn't bother putting any make up, wala namang rason. Kung pwede nga lang hindi pumunta ay ginawa ko na.

When we arrived at the place, it was the opposite of what I'm expecting. 

Walang tao... pero may naka set-up na kakainan para sa dalawang tao. 

I accusingly looked at him but he just smiled at me. 

"Can't let this day pass without you celebrating your eighteenth birthday, Arlaise."
