An alarm goes off. A hand lazily reaches out and turns it off. I turn over and slowly open my eyes. I stare at the faintly glowing ceiling stars. After a minute or two, I realized what day it was, it was an important day for someone close to me and the town. I sighed at the thought and rolled out of bed to get ready. I put on a light pink shirt which says 'I don't talk, I sew my problems' with a heart being stitched and some jean shorts. I looked at myself in the large dresser mirror as I was doing my hair. I look down to see a doll leaning against the mirror's left corner. The doll was of my old neighbor, Tyler; my best friend gave it to me before my friend left. I picked it up and gave it a small hug before putting it in my bag on a chair next to me. I also grabbed my school things as well.

I left my room and headed down to the kitchen. On the counter were a blueberry muffin, a small bouquet of roses, and a note. I picked up the note, and it read:

'Mornin' my beautiful doll,
Sorry, I'm not here for breakfast. Duty calls. I did make you a muffin. Don't forget to visit Tyler today. Love you, Meg baby.
Mama Marciel. :)'

I put down the note, grabbed the flowers and muffin, and went out the front door. I locked the door and started eating the muffin as I walked. I usually got to school really early, so I had time to visit Tyler and get to school on time. I stopped at a gate.

"Still depressing as ever, eh, Cotton Bay Cemetery?" I muttered as I stuffed the muffin wrapper in my pocket. I took a deep breath and entered the gate. I memorized the path to find Tyler, so it didn't take that long. Like the many years before, I slowed as I came up to the grave.

Tyler Argoni
19XX - 2010
Loving husband, father, and a small town's beloved doll maker.

I shuttered at the vibrant memory of Tyler's mutilated body the police found a day or so after my trip with my friend, Ariel. Ariel and her aunt were devastated when the police told them. They never told Ariel's mom about it; she's been a no-show ever since Ariel was born.

The town held the funeral a week after the death happened. Then... Ariel's family moved without a word to the town. They left no trace of anything to give an explanation as to why they left or when/if they're coming back.

I set the roses in front of the tombstone and whispered,

"Happy Birthday, Tyler."
