For context of when the story is taking place: This is after the second 'World' movie. Yes, I know that there is a third movie in the making and coming out at some point next year, but remember that this is a fanfic! Nothing here is canon, okay? Thank you.

"S-Simon, you're kinda pulling too hard," complained Nora.

"Sorry, Gra- Er- Nora. I have never braided hair before, you'll have to cut me some slack," said Simon. Both of the kids were in Simon's room, sitting on his bed. Nora was sitting in front of Simon, her back to him as he was braiding the sides of her head before Nora would put on a beanie and put her hair up in a short ponytail at school.

"Is there any particular reason why I'm doing this exactly?" questioned Simon. She never wanted braids before and it would be difficult to do it herself. If she weren't careful while she was still at home, Mom and Dad would find out, and question/interrogate her, which, according to Nora, would be very bad.

"No," answered Nora, with a hint of suspicion, noted Simon. Nora winced again from the braiding.

"Sorry... There, I'm done," he said, tying off the braids with rubber ponytail bands. "Now let's get going or we'll be late for school." Both of them got up and Nora left the bedroom, leaving Simon standing alone in the middle of the room. He grabbed his bag and slung it on one shoulder. Before Simon could turn around and leave, his eyes landed on a picture of Aunt Claire and Owen Grady. Simon felt goosebumps prick at both of his arms. It's been about a year since the incident, and a lot has changed. Simon shook his head, clearing his mind, along with the feeling that something was lurking at the window, and left the room.

Nora was waiting at the front door, munching on breakfast, when Simon got (There? Downstairs?). Nora had a black beanie to cover her braids. She tossed him a pop tart before heading outside to Simon's car.

"Have a good day, Zach." a person yelled from the kitchen. "You too, Gray!" Nora winced when she heard her deadname.

"Thanks, mom," Simon said in a slightly sarcastic tone, as he closed the door, and both of them got inside the car. Simon pulled out of the driveway and drove off. After Simon got onto the main road, he side-glanced at Nora. She was staring out the window and was pulling her hair into a ponytail with the band she had on her wrist. She looked down; she didn't like being called her deadname, even though she doesn't have the courage to tell their parents her actual name.

"Hey, it's gonna be okay, buddy," Simon said with sympathy. "Things will get better... eventually." He hesitated at the last part because he didn't really know when or if things will get better. He hasn't come out to Mom and Dad as gay yet. Nora looked at Simon with a faint smile. Hopefully, things will be okay, for better, and not for worse.

(I was ready to write the next chapter, but stopped after finishing this one)
