A person walked into the lab room, anticipation and excitement in their step. A shorter being, who was already in the room, working on something, turned and greeted them.
"Greetings, your excellency," the person echoed, bringing their arms up to salute them, moving them to form a diamond. The taller one nodded back but rolled their eyes at the name. There was no need for such a name; the shorter being realized their mistake and continued working on their machine in silence, remembering to check themselves before it could happen again. The tall figure grabbed a recording device that laid on a table nearby and pressed a button to activate it. They took a deep breath before speaking into it.
"Log Date: O-five O-seven nineteen. We are almost ready to start Project Rejuvenator. Peridot, how long until the machine is ready?" They asked, turning the person in the room. Peridot turned her head toward them, pausing her work, and replied:
"The mini injector should be done in 3 minutes, my Dia-er-Stevonnie." she corrected herself.
"Good," Stevonnie said, satisfied. "Thank you, Peridot. I'm going to go get the subject. I'll be right back." Peridot nodded and going back to the project once again.
Stevonnie walked out and down the long corridors of the building. They arrived at a holding chamber area, one that was designed differently than the usual gem holding cells that have been created. They stopped in front of one, a person curled in the back corner of the cell, asleep. Stevonnie knocked on the bars of the cell, causing the person to wake with a jolt. The alerted person turned with dark-bagged eyes toward the sound of their waking and glared with hate when they realized it was Stevonnie.
"Get up. It's time." Stevonnie said as politely as they could muster. The prisoner continued to glare with hatred. Stevonnie grunted with annoyance. Of course, he would be stubborn about this, the incompetent brat. They slammed their hand on the scanner next to the cell and the bars slid up. They walk toward them and the prisoner's glare melted into fear. He quickly scrambled up and try to calculate a way around their tall captour. Since he's in a corner, he moved to around them, using the empty space next to him. Though, Stevonnie was quicker; they grabbed the prisoner in their arms. The prisoner kicked and grunted with effort to break free from their grip, but he knew it was wasting his energy.
Stevonnie walked back to the lab room. Peridot was setting up the injector on a side table next to a longer one. Stevonnie put the struggling human down and the table and both Peridot and they quickly pinned his limbs down and strapped the human securely on the table.
"Let me go, you bitch!" The human started yelling. Stevonnie smacked him across the face, stunning him, grabbed a nearby cloth, and gagged him with it. At least, that will shut him up. Stevonnie lifted the recorder, which was still on.
"The subject and injector are ready and in place. Time to start. Test thirty-seven of Project Rejuvenator, seeing if a gem and human can be forced to fuse together. This time, it should work. Or so the calculations say." Stevonnie said.
"I've done the math, Stevonnie. This should work... Hopefully." Peridot said, hesitant on the last word.
"Hopefully," Stevonnie repeated, a sweat droplet rolling down the side of their face. They both shivered silently from the memories of the other tests that ended in disaster. They pushed the gory memories to the back of their mind and focused back on the project back at hand.
Stevonnie pulled a bag out from underneath the table and pulled out a gem. It was a purple pearl, but it had a sliver of pink in it. It was from Stevonnie's own gem. It would make the subject more loyal to them, or so that was their thought process. They also pulled out a syringe from the bag. They grabbed the male's face. He winced when their fingers touched the place where he was smacked. They stuck the syringe in his neck and pressed the liquid inside. The boy's eyes fluttered open and close until gentle snoring emitted from him.
"Subject is now numbed and unconscious. The procedure can begin." Stevonnie said, stating the obvious, perhaps to reassure themselves that he is not dead. Both the diamond and gem, wearing gloves, started making incisions in the middle of the stomach. It had to be big enough to fit the pearl in it without moving the organs as much as possible. Once the gem was in place, they moved the injector to position the needle over the gem. Peridot pressed a button on the side of the machine and it hummed to life. A liquid concoction, liquefied crystals from Era 1 rejuvenator, and healing liquids (including the diamond's healing liquids) poured onto the gem and skin around the gem. Stevonnie and Peridot collapsed into chairs, simultaneously releasing the breaths they were holding.
"Gem-inserting procedure complete. And now... we wait," Stevonnie sighed into the recording device, then turned it off. They set it down on the table next to Peridot.
"I have other duties to attend to. Log any changes. Call me if there is another major incident with the subject or if the project finishes." Stevonnie ordered, standing and walking to the entrance of the lab room. Peridot gave them the diamond-salute as they exited. She got up and added the vital-reading wires to the body. After that was done, she turned on the monitor, it beeping at a steady pace from the heart-rate of the boy.
Peridot sighed tiredly and sat down, running her fingers through her hair. She settled her hand into her lap, they were shaking. She didn't want to fail her diamond again with another failed attempt. They
