"We'll come with you." Amanda spoke. Juliana shook her head.
"No, I need to do this alone." Grabbing her keys, Juliana ran off to the car and put it in drive. She drove off quickly to Jay's house and completely disregarded her seatbelt.
The music blared loudly in her ears as her pulse quickened. What would happen when she confronted Jay? Would he be involved in our child's life? Will he leave and deny anything to do with him or her? Juliana's free hand cradled her abdomen protectively.
The baby was hers. Her own flesh and blood. Her pride and joy. Just to think that soon a tiny human would come out of her and depend on her made her scared and elated at the same time.
As she focused halfheartedly on the road, Juliana pictured Jay in her head. He was at least a foot taller than her and he was extremely muscular. His black hair was kept nice and clean on the sides and gelled upwards slightly on the top. Juliana remembered his emerald green eyes that would draw her in. Those full lips...
"Snap out of it." She muttered to herself. However he was the father of her baby, she didn't willingly engage in the... Erm, baby making.
The colorful cars flew by as she drove down the road. She noticed not one looked exactly alike. A unique scratch here, some personalized bumper stickers there.
What will the baby look like? She wondered. Will he or she have Jay's ebony hair? Will our child have my blue eyes? There was no knowing until the baby was born.
She pulled up to his house and marveled in its size.
The house- no, mansion -was about five stories tall with a huge backyard and pool. Lights were strung up, illuminating the now dimming sky. Tall cream pillars led up the side of the house, seemingly holding up the roof. A balcony sat at the top of the house, reminding her of Romeo and Juliet. Juliana parked the car and walked confidently up to the doorway.
Ding dong
Some shuffling occurred inside and eventually the door opened. Jay Wilson stood before her, his tight t-shirt clinging to his chest. Dews of sweat covered his forehead and he panted as if he had been exercising.
"Hey there. What's up?" He spoke nonchalantly. Did he not even care?
"Can I come in?" She asked. He nodded.
"Of course. Come on in. Take a seat." He pointed to the couch and she nodded, taking her seat on the white leather sofa.
"I need to talk to you Jay." She said calmly. He held up his index finger.
"Just a second hun." He disappeared for a second before coming back with a beer.
"You want one?" He pointed to the beverage. She shook her head and he shrugged before taking a swig.
"Jay, this is serious." Juliana spoke.
"Then I'm all ears. Shoot." He propped his head up on his hand on the couch opposite of Juliana, lounging his body on the length of it.
Juliana took a deep breath before speaking.
"I know what happened at the party." She breathed out quickly. He laughed.
"A lot of things happen at a lot of parties. Specify for me?" He sipped his drink again and smirked at her. He was really cocky.
"I was drunk and you, um..." She looked him in the eyes and understanding crossed his face. He snapped his fingers.
"That's right. You're the freshman from the other night." Juliana's jaw dropped and she stood up quickly.
"Really?" Jay cocked his head to the side at her outburst.
"Did I get it wrong? Because I'm pretty sure I remember that pretty face."
"No, that's me. You have absolutely no regards for what happened? Jay, I lost my virginity to you!" She shouted.
"It's not my fault you got drunk and lost your v-card." He shrugged. Juliana grit her teeth.
"Jay, I was drunk. You took advantage of me. Do you not feel anything?" Jay sighed and stood, walking over to the front door.
"I'm sorry, but there was nothing between us. It was a one night stand. Nothing more." He set his hand on the knob and was about to turn it when Juliana blurted out her biggest secret.
"I'm pregnant!" Jay spun around, his jaw hanging open."You're what?" He spoke slowly. Shock filled his eyes and Juliana but her lip.
"I'm pregnant Jay. With your child." Her hands flew to her stomach and she caressed it gently. He walked over slowly and rested his hands on her stomach. Electricity shot through her and she smiled slightly. This was his first contact with their child.
"Are you sure it's mine? What... What if it's someone else's?"
"First off Jay, the baby is not an it. He or she is our child. And secondly, of course the baby is yours! For heavens sake, you're the only person I've ever had sex with!" He backed up and folded his hands together nervously.
"I can't do this. I can't be a father. I'm not ready." He turned and rubbed his neck. Juliana walked up and put her hand on his shoulder.
"And you think I'm ready to be a mother? I'm fifteen, Jay. I'm just about as prepared as you are. Hell, I'm not even supposed to be driving without a licensed driver in the car with me!" Jay turned around with soft eyes and looked at Juliana with compassion.
"What do you think we should do?" He asked gently. Juliana thought about it for a second before answering.
"Stay with me for a year. Be there for the pregnancy, the birth of our child, and get to know him or her. Then, if you still want nothing to do with us, you can leave. I can't make you stay. But let me tell you this, I want our baby to know it's father." She pursed her lips as she waited for his response.
"Yeah, that sounds good." He put his hands on her stomach again and they both smiled.
"Our One-Year Promise."
