"She broke the samples and ran," Jackson tells me, face just as shattered as the shards of glass glittering on the floor. He stares at Jasper, noticing the black veins, and I nod.

"Well, at least we have a bunker," I sigh, then motion over to my boyfriend. "He got the cure, but that means, along with Luna, we're the only Nightbloods left now." I chew my lip tiredly.

"We don't have time for that," Abby chides, serious as a heart attack. "We need to pack up and go home. Now. Everyone, start packing. Murphy, Raven, Emori, could you guys stay back and get the last of it?"

The trio agrees, and we head off with a few boxes filled with all of the various science equipment we'll need. "We'll be meeting the others at the bunker," Abby tells us.

Nodding, I place the box into the back of the rover, taking Jasper's hand in my own. Lacing our fingers, I take a seat in the back, adjacent Roan, Clarke, and Abby. Miller and Jackson hop into the front.

When we make it to the clearing finally, Roan, Jasper, and I leave the rover first, leaving the Griffin girls together. I stretch out my arms, but bite my lip, glancing back.

Something nags at me, though I do my best to ignore it. Flanking Miller, we join Kane at the clearing, who is smiling wide.

"Gentlemen, Miss Blake. It's good to see you all." We dip our heads in greeting, trying to go past him, when he stops us, catching my elbow in one of his hands. I'm surprised he doesn't even glance at the dried blood painting my face. His gaze is anywhere but here, unfocused and tired. "Just wait here."

"Where are the guards?" Roan rasps cautiously, pausing. He gives me a look, and I manage to give him a tiny shrug, sincerely confused beyond belief. I really don't remember this part of it.

Kane responds vaguely, "Our people aren't back from Arkadia yet." Before he can say anything more, Clarke runs out.

She gets grabbed by her mother, but manages to shout, "Kane, don't. Roan!"

In an instant, the Azgedan King draws his sword, and I drop my box, pulling from Kane's grasp. Whipping out a pistol, I aim at one of the many men emerging from the darkened treeline. "Kane, what is this? Azgeda are allies."

"Trikru," Roan hisses, and I race to protect the king, Jasper by my side. However, it proves unnecessary when arrows fly from the woods, downing the Trikru warriors. Azgedans reveal themselves, bows slung towards the other enemies.

They attack in less than a fraction of a second, pouncing on the different Arkadians and Trikru in the clearing, me included. Roan turns around in bewilderment, but orders for my release, as well as Jasper's, helping both of us to stand up as Echo steps out of the woods, a smug grin clear on her sharp features.

"Welcome back to Polis, my king."

---

"Okei, sis klir," Roan mutters, bursting through the doors to the throne room. Echo motions over at Jasper and me, but the king shakes his head. "De klir. Gon yu klin."
