As usual, Annabeth  was the brightest student in the class and probably in the whole school. I mean, after all she was Athena's daughter...
I was glad that now her mother accepted me as Annabeth's boyfriend, after all we've been trough, I didn't know what else did she wanted me to prove.

— Hey dude — said someone behind me. I turned to face Adam and Sam walking towards me.
— What's up.
— I heard your gf arrived this morning — He said grinning at me.

I have told him a lot about Annabeth lately. Since I didn't have Grover with me  and Jason, Frank and Nico were all in different places that were definitely not near mine, I only had Adam to talk with. Although I still missed the guys. And Leo... I heard from Nico that he was still alive, or something like that. It was a relief to know that since I felt really bad because I didn't do anything to help him. I could have saved him...
— Perce? — Sam snapped her fingers in front of my face and I realized that I had been lost in thought once again.
— Yeah , yeah, Annabeth arrived yesterday because of my...
They both looked at each other exchanging worrying looks.
— Well you saw everything, you know what I mean.
— How do you feel? — Adam asked —, last time we saw Jane she said that your mom called her to know the details of your... whatever was that.
— Yeah... I mean, right now I'm feeling completely great so you have nothing to worry about.
Annabeth's presence had encouraged me.
The bell rang and we went to second period.

We were heading to sports Tryouts, and I was still unsure on which to decide. There were two options, to try basketball, in which I was not bad, or try for the swimming team, in which I had an enormous advantage since I was the son of the God of the sea...

— What are you gonna try for? — I asked Adam while we were walking past the hallways .
— I'm thinking in trying Football — he said and I made a face. Not that I didn't like football, actually some girls have asked me during the day if I was going to apply for the Football team, and I seriously took in consideration their suggestions, but It just didn't feel like me.
— Great — I finally answered —, I'm thinking on Swimming or Basketball. Maybe I'll try both and see what I like the most.
— I didn't know that you liked swimming — Adam said —, were you on the Swimming team at your last school?
— I wasn't, actually I have never been on a swimming team, this would be the first time.
— Well — he said —, If that's the case, wish you the best luck. You'll probably need it.
— Why?
— Neil Jones was assigned as team captain last year — Adam answered, and I tried so hard to remember who that guy was —, He is really good and only admits the best of the best. He can be kinda rude sometimes. Just warning you to not mess with him a lot.
— Yeah... don't worry man, I think I'v got this.

I was sitting on the bleachers with a bunch of other guys who I supposed were there for the same reason as I, when I saw a blonde headed girl arrive and sit next to me.
— Thought you had Geography — I whispered.
— Yeah, I have Geography — she answered, making me look suspiciously at her.
— Then... why are you...
— Damn it Seaweed brain — Annabeth exclaimed —, Can't I pretend to be a normal girlfriend trying to cheer her boyfriend!?
— I mean, ofc you can but... I know you have another purpose.
— Ok. You know me too well — she accepted smiling mischievously—, I'm here to see how you kick everyone's ass.
— Yeah. That sounds a lot more like you — I agreed and she rolled her eyes.
— Hey, you're the new kid? — A guy asked, interrupting our conversation—, Jackson right?
I nodded
— The tryouts are starting at any minute — he said and I noticed that everyone else was already in their swimming trunks, lining up next to the pool.
— Thanks — I turned to Annabeth —, Ready for a little bit of action.
She smiled.
— Just... don't forget to breathe so everyone thinks you're just a great swimmer, but not a son of some kind of water god or Aquaman.
I laughed but immediately remembered Leo and all the crazy names he used to call me. Even if we weren't really close, I still missed him... that was the problem of being me. Sometimes I had the feeling that I owed something to everyone, even if I had only know them for a few days...
— Seaweed brain — Annabeth brought me out of my thoughts and I gave her a little kiss in the forehead and headed to the locker rooms to change.

A few minutes later, I was already on the springboard about to jump into the pool. Everyone was looking attentively at us, barely blinking. Some girls were making weird faces at me and when I caught them looking at me they automatically laughed and started to whisper to each other dramatically. I didn't understand girls.

— When the whistle sounds the competition starts. Remember. You only have three opportunities to prove yourself.

— I don't get why do we need to do this — I listened someone behind me—, Our team is already complete.

The whistle sounded and echoed all over the place. I immediately jumped off the springboard and felt the water wrapping my whole body. As my skin touched the water, a revitalizing felling flow through my veins.

I started to swim, trying to slow my speed and reminding myself to breathe every few seconds. I didn't want everyone speculating about me.

First round, there were just two left.
Second round, just one more. I was still in the head.
Last round. Like a flash, I suddenly remembered that time when I experienced for the first time what drowning felt like. I wanted to fight, to go to the surface and breathe. I couldn't. I was trapped. A part of me was afraid, afraid of dying and everything that comes after death, but another part really wanted to die, to stop feeling, to stop fighting and finally rest. I was going to Elysium, I didn't doubt that, but what would have happened to my mom?, Paul?, Annabeth? ...

I couldn't have done that to them.

I shook my head. I wasn't there anymore. I was in a swimming tryout, and I was going to win.

I started to swim again, and noticed that there were a few guys ahead me.
I wasn't going to let them win, so I Immediately started to swim, and my natural talent made me reach the first place in a matter of seconds.
Finally I reached the end of the pool and emerged to the surface. The whistle sounded again.

I looked at Annabeth, who was smiling but not at all. She was happy but suspicious. She must have noticed when I stopped.

Some girls were shouting and clapping and when I came out of the pool, they came running at me and some other guys that ended up in second and third place.
— You were amazing! The fastest of all— one said —, I haven't seen you around!? Are you new or something?

I smiled and nodded, but my attention was in Annabeth and I saw her staring at the girls in front of me, like if she had no problem with murdering one or all of them.
Suddenly I feared for the girl's life...

After that, we all changed back into our normal clothes and waited for the coach and team captain to take a decision. They were examining everything. Our techniques, our timing, our actitud...

— We've made a decision — Announced Neil, a talk guy with an athletic built, brown hair and blue eyes — We're just going to accept the best, and even if you are selected today, I would not recommend you feel very comfortable yet, because we're still gonna have an eye on you and if I see something that I don't like, you're out.

Great.

— ok, so now — he started—, the ones who passed the test. Smith, Ramirez —Two guys got up and walked to the spot where the coach was —. And Jackson.
Neil stared at me while I walked towards the other two and the coach. And I could feel his gaze even when I was a few meters away from him.

— Ok, that's all — Neil announced—, You can go now.

I'm back! First of all I want to apologize because I promised that I was going to be active and clearly I couldn't keep the promise. I have been really busy with school and other stuff and also, if I'm completely honest, I wasn't feeling really inspired to continue the story. I was out of ideas and wanted to stop.
But now I'm back so dw.
Hope you like it!
Have a really great weekend!
