The Chosen Phoenix II

Chapter 13- Discussion

Ben and Jyn spent the next few weeks reviewing what Zachary had said.

' " The key must be used in the place where man and phoenix last met ". What does that mean? ' Jyn asked. She looked around the living room of Elliot House, at Ben, Anthony, and the soldier that had accompanied her, Ben and Anthony to the Water of Memories, Ray.

' Maybe the " man " and " phoenix " means Gunnar and Axel. ' Ben guessed.

' But where did Axel and Gunnar last meet? They've never even left each other! ' Anthony said.

' He's right. Axel has always been on Gunnar's side, even when you don't see them together, Axel may always be watching him from the sky. He is a phoenix after all. ' said Ben. Jyn thought, If Gunnar and Axel never left each other, then what did Zachary mean by " where man and phoenix last met "?

' What else did he say, Ben? ' Anthony asked as he turned to Ben.

' He said that the clue sat in the note he was supposed to past to Gunnar secretly. I've been thinking for the past few weeks, doing it step by step, then I realised this: This is a legend, a legend you will forget, no one has ever mentioned Gunnar or Axel when Gunnar passed and Axel's spirit left with him... '

Axel swooped in through the window and landed on Jyn's shoulder. Jyn stoked him gently on the head. Axel chirped. Everyone looked at him then back at Ben.

' Continue, ' Anthony said.

' ... Unless you search into the beyond. It took me a while on this one, I'm still trying to figure out— '

' The Realm of Good Spirits? ' Jyn suggested suddenly. Every head in the room turned to Jyn, even the maid of the house who was just brushing the dust of the wall, stopped abruptly and turned to look at Jyn.

' Pardon? ' said Anthony.

' It's where Gunnar and Axel's spirit are now. Every time I have a vision, I means Gunnar has summoned me, it could be because he has something to tell me. But that was how I knew that Darkslaver was coming. Unless you search into the beyond, the beyond could be the Realm of Good Spirits. ' 

' That could be, yeah thanks Jyn! ' Ben smiled at Jyn. Jyn gave a nod, ' Continue... '

' Anyways, the key to this and the power shall bond, the key, now I realise, is actually the key to the Realm of Good Spirits, thanks to Jyn. So maybe Jyn could tell us how she entered the Realm of Good Spirits and then maybe with whatever power, we could make it bond with the key to the Realm. '

' That... ' Anthony began after a while of silence.

' ... makes... ' Ray continued.

' ... no sense. ' Anthony finished.

' But who has the key?... ' Ben wondered out loud, ignoring, ' ... and who has the power? And what kind of power exactly? '

' Maybe the Phoenix Powers! And I enter the Realm whenever I sleep or when I pull my mind " away from Earth ", mostly sleep, I just enter the Realm. And that's it. But when I escaped from Darkslaver, when I performed the unintentional move, I felt something. And I think that could eat me into the Realm, too. ' said Jyn.

' Okay, so you have to enter the Realm, and then we'll find out what power we need to find. And... we have to wait for you to fall asleep? ' Anthony was whirring with confusion.

' Why don't you try now, Jyn? Other than sleeping? Maybe... using your powers? ' Ben suggested, turning to Jyn. Jyn thought, then nodded. She closed her eyes, trying to clear her clouded thoughts in her mind, inhaling and exhaling smoothly. Then out of the blue, as if it was automatic, Jyn performed an extraordinary move that caused the whole living room to light up by the main source: the same glowing phoenix that appeared when Jyn escaped from Darkslaver.

' Woah! ' Ben, Anthony and Ray yelled together at once and all three of them fell backwards behind the sofa. The maid, who had been listening the whole time, widened her eyes and swooned dramatically.

And in a flash, Jyn was gone. The three slowly emerged from behind the fallen sofa, quivering as though they were in Antarctica. The maid sat straight up and swooned again, with more drama,  at the sight of the empty space in the middle of the living room. Ben, Anthony and Ray gaped at the wide space.

' I- I- I'm just going to do some training... ' Ray blurted and in a flash as he leaped over the sofa and raced behind the wall.Ben and Anthony turned the sofa over and sat down. They looked at each other.

' Where do you think she is now? ' Anthony asked.

' How would I know? ' said Ben, a little amused that Anthony had probably claimed that he knew where Jyn was. 

' Maybe you should check your book. ' Anthony suggested curtly.

' What book? ' 

' Legend of the Chosen Phoenix! You have that book, right? '

' Wha— why would I want— wh— eh... fine. I'll try. ' Ben muttered at the last few words.
