~ George POV ~
We were only ten days into December, but I was ready to go home already. I knew that when Ollie and I both headed back to Hertford, it meant that we would get to relax with our families, go to the pubs that we both missed so much, and drink the lagar that we missed even more.
I liked Christmas, but the best way to have a merry little Christmas was with a glass of British lagar in hand. It isn't the same in America.
Ollie, Miguel, and I have gone out for some Christmas shopping this afternoon. I'd managed to buy presents for everyone I needed to all in one afternoon and I was feeling pretty good about myself. Dad was getting new socks, Mum was getting perfume, Jessica was getting some new earbuds, and Ethan was getting a new journal for his songwriting.
I'm not the best at gift giving, but I do at least try to be thoughtful.
Miguel is driving us back to our apartment, and is singing at the top of his lungs, apparently unaware that his singing voice leaves something to be desired.
"THIIIIS CHRISTMAS, THE FIRESIDE IS BLAZING BRIGHT... AND WE'RE CAROLING THROUGH THE NIIIIGHT!"
Ollie winces from the passenger's seat, covering his ears, "Mate, take some vocal lessons, please."
Miguel turns the music down a bit, "You're not exactly the best singer either, Ollie."
"That is true, but I refrain from singing in front of others because I don't want them to go deaf."
Out of the corner of my eye, I notice a large sign in the distance.
"I'm gonna keep singing." Miguel nods, turning the music back up, "SLEIGHBELLS RING - ARE YA LISTEN' - IN THE LANE - SNOW IS GLISTENIN' -"
"Miguel!"
"WALKIN IN A WINTER WONDERLAND-"
"MIGUEL!" I yell over him.
He turns the music off, "Sheesh, you too, George?"
"No, I don't care if you sing -"
"Ha! See, Ollie -"
"No, but turn left up here! I want to go to Smoothie King!"
Miguel frowns, "Why? We're almost home, you can just eat there."
Ollie clicks his tongue, "You sound like my mum when I was a kid."
"I'm pretty sure this is the Smoothie King that Everly works at." I say, "And I've never been to a Smoothie King before."
Miguel gives me a complacent smirk, "Ohh, so really you just want to see Everly?"
"Well, sure." I reply, trying to seem nonchalant, but knowing that both men knew exactly what was happening inside my head, "I told her I would come visit her at work one day, and I know she's supposed to be working right now."
"All right." Miguel asks, "Do you think she'll give us free smoothies?"
"Probably not."
He clicks his tongue a few times, "Your girlfriend is not worth it then."
"She's not my girlfriend." I grumble, "We're just friends."
As Miguel turns at the light, Ollie turns to look at me from the front seat, "What's up with you and Everly anyway?"
"We're just friends."
Ollie rolls his eyes, "Yeah, I don't believe that for a second."
"Well, she's going through a breakup and I haven't exactly asked her out on a date, have I?"
