Young and Dumb - Chapter 1

I finished packing my bags and closed my suitcase, standing up and walking into the bathroom. Today I would be leaving for camp with my brother, Simon. School had just ended one week ago and we had camp for two weeks. I live in Australia, so here we could go to the beach any day and as a matter of fact, this year summer camp would be located on the beach.

"Rafa! We're already leaving! Hurry up!" I rolled my eyes at my obnoxious brother and pulled my hair into a pony tail, grabbing my purse and bags to leave for camp.

"I will never understand how girls take so much time getting ready." My brother rolled his eyes and continued rambling, "this is why I much rather spend time with Thom."

Thomas, my oldest brother had moved to Barcelona a year ago with his wife, and my sister Anita, who was working as a doctor in Madrid, had also moved last year.

"Shut up, you love me." I hugged him and he kissed my cheek.

"I will never understand how sibling relationships work." My mother rolled her eyes. It's a family thing.

"All set?" We nodded and my dad grabbed his keys, opening the house door for us all.

"I call dibs on the left side." My brother shrugged. I preferred the left side because I always left gum on the door for my next ride.

"You are so disgusting." Simon groaned as I stuck a gum into my mouth.

"Simon leave your sister alone." My dad said.

"Rafa, how long has that gum been there?"

"I left it there yesterday, chill, and it still had its wrap on so don't worry, I'm not that gross." My whole family nodded and started playing some music on the car speakers.

"Round and around and around and around we go.." I loved this song. Whenever I heard it I sang along with my heart to the lyrics.

"Selfie!" My brother snapped a picture of us and posted it on his snapchat story.

I laughed and took another selfie from my phone to post on my story.

"And we're here." Dad parked and stepped out of the car to remove our bags from the car.

"We will see you in two weeks!" My mom shouted in my ear. I laughed and nodded, hugging her tight. I then changed positions with my brother and hugged my dad.

Simon and I waved at my parents as we walked through the camp doors to check in.

Behind the lobby desk, there was an old lady who greeted us with a warm smile.

"Sweetheart what's your name?" I smiled.

"Hi, I'm Rafaela Carpenter." She wrote my name on a paper and looked up.

"Age?"

"I am 15." She nodded and smiled.

"You look older."

"Thank you..?" She laughed and cleared her throat.

"Okay that will be all with you," she looked at Simon, "I'm guessing you are her brother?"

"Yes. Hello I am Simon." She wrote her name on the same paper and asked for his age.

"I'm 16." She nodded and smiled for the hundredth time at us.

"Okay, that will be all, you guys just go through those doors," she pointed over to the doors that lead to the patio, "and there will be another lady who will lead you guys to your rooms." We thanked her and walked to the patio, to be greeted by another lady, a bit younger though.

"Hello guys, I believe you are Rafaela and Simon Carpenter?"

"Call me Rafa," I said awkwardly. She gave me a confused look. I giggled lightly, "I don't really like my name."

She smiled and nodded. The lady first lead Simon to his room, which shared a room with a boy my age named Franco and then lead me to my room.

"By the way, my name is Sandra, if you need anything." I nodded and smiled.

Sandra reached a door and knocked three times, for a girl to open the door revealing her warm welcoming smile. She was tall, about 5,0 and skinny. She had dark blonde hair and big blue eyes, which where very noticeable.

"Hiii! I'm Savannah!" She hugged me and pulled me into the room. "I believe you are my new roommate?"

I smiled.

"Yes. My name is Rafa." She smiled and nodded.

"Okay then ladies, I will be leaving right now. Let me know if you need any help with anything." We nodded and closed the door.

"So do you want to play poker?" I shrugged.

"Sure, why not?"
