chapter 14 : what sandman said

"NO ! Klaus !  don't listen to him , don't you listen to him !! " he shouted

But Klaus paused gazing at the yellow eyes of the sandman , he found himself struggling again between two choices , he could stay here , in this infinite dream with his family , and be the new sandman , or he could go back to reality with Roy ,

He flashed back , a sentence Roy had said before he had jumped , " don’t let dreams control you no matter how real they seem and how fake reality gets "

All the time Roy kept shouting with all his might " DOOON'T DO IT Klaus ! " over and over again , hoping that Klaus would hear him , Ed was closing his ears , he found Roy's panting for air as an opportunity to ask  "what happens if Klaus went that 'door'  ? "

" he'll never wake up … " he answered deeply

Klaus was confused ,his thoughts weren't making any sense , he didn’t know what to do , " they should make choices like this one as a torturing method ! " he thought  , " Roy or family , family or Roy ? reality or dreams ? Roy ? family ? family ? Roy ? … isn't Roy family ? .. "

Sandman notices how confused and hesitated Klaus seemed , as if his family wasn't much of a strong reason against the presence of his best friend in the real world , Roy was always the stronger option , the better choice , reality maybe is preferred over dreams as it also seems , even though reality always lets you down and the other world is yet to be discovered ,

Sandman knows a better way , a stronger reason that should pull Klaus right to it , even a stronger reason than 'reassembling Klaus with his lost family ' ,  Klaus's lust for revenge …

" I see you're quite hesitated " said the sandman at last , " Klaus , you came too far , you've crossed your worst nightmares and you proved to be courageous enough , which is something most needed in this world , you must ask yourself .. ' I've seen the worst of this world and it terrified me at the beginning , then I wonder what 's the best of this world would be like ?' …  you have proven to me that you are strong enough to handle your fears .. maybe now you're ready to face the worst of them all … the truth . "

" the truth ? the truth about what ? " he asked curious   ,

The walls then began to break away , to find themselves at Klaus's house just  before the fire , beside the fire place . he saw himself when he was a child , about 10 years old , playing with the fire and burning things in it ,  a minute after , he saw himself leaving the room , forgetting to put it out  like his mother always told him to do , or put away the things he was burning , they followed little Klaus to the harbor  as he always walked along the harbor at this late hour , he used to sneak out there and stay till the break of dawn then sneak back in before any one woke up , Klaus was wondering why did sandman bring him to this memory ? ,

"is that what you remember ? " asked the sandman

"yes , almost two hours later, I heard an explosion  just a couple of blocks away , then I remembered that I didn't put out the fire , something must have burnt from the things I was playing with , and .. . "

Grinned the sandman , he traveled with Klaus back to his house , to the fireplace room ,  minutes before the fire ,  " so what if I tell you , the fire didn't start from the fireplace room ? " said the sandman ,as Klaus witnessed that the fire place was put out , he  was astounded , speechless , he didn’t believe the sandman  " th..that's impossible I didn… " ,

Sandman was still grinning , he walked to the living room and Klaus followed him hesitantly ,

" I am sorry for what you're about to see , but it's the truth , the 'reality' you seek "  said the sandman quite mysteriously
