Harry's POV
17 years oldThings with me and Madden were like they always had been. Like we were the only two people to exist in a world even though we were surrounded by hundreds. It didn't matter that we took an extended time away from each other. It was almost like that blip of time didn't even happen to us.
Things weren't easy, not always. Madden struggled so deeply those first couple of months after that night that I feared she would never be the same girl again. And who could blame her? Something like that indefinitely alters a person.
But she came out of it, just like she always did. And this time, she didn't push me away. She let me be there and see all her bad and all her good. I got to sit beside her while she picked the many thorns out of her caged heart, and I was so fucking excited to do so.
She was so strong it blew me away, she always had been capable of making me feel things that no one else could, and I was certain that would never change.
The guys took a little adjusting to seeing us..together basically. We weren't what you would call dating, but we were happy. And we weren't seeing anyone else. I would have killed any fucker that looked at her for too long, much less asked her out.
And they all knew it, and she did too. She tried to act like she hated it, but I knew she secretly loved how crazy I was about her. How crazy I was for her.
It didn't make sense and it wasn't healthy, but it was and it worked, so why rock the boat?
"How do I look?" She asked, pulling me away from my thoughts. I turned to stare at her and was always blown away by how much she'd changed in the ten years that I'd known her.
A whole fucking decade.
"You look just as beautiful as you always do." I tell her, being completely honest.
She frowns like that's the wrong answer. "I have my hair curled, make up on my face, self tanner all over my body, and a dress with high heels on. I look completely different than what I usually do."
I just shrug. "You're always beautiful to me. Doesn't matter what your clothes or hair look like."
Madden had on a tight blue sundress for the wedding we were about to attend together. RJ's dad had met someone a couple years back and he was finally tying the knot again.
Her light brown hair and was curled and half was pulled back from her face in some kind of fancy braid. Her toes were painted white and were sticking out of the top of her high heels, giving me all kinds of thoughts about how I'd like those legs and feet to look on me later.
But we still hadn't gone that far. Which was fine. I understood why Madden was taking her time, and I was in no rush at all. I wasn't with the girl because I wanted to fuck her.
I mean I did, but that wasn't the only reason. Not the main one.
"Let's just go before you piss me off." She snaps, and grabs her small purse from the back of the chair in her room and storms out the door.
"What did I say wrong?" I ask her as I follow her down the staircase in her house.
"You didn't say anything wrong perse, but you know most of the time when a girl gets dressed up and her boyfriend sees her, he gets all like blown away and tongue tied. You weren't even fazed."
"Boyfriend?" I ask, and grin cheekily when she cuts her eyes at me.
"That's what you heard out of that whole speech I just gave you?"
