Madden's POV
6 Months laterIm sitting here at a party, trying to act like I'm interested in the bullshit chatter that's going on around me. When really, I couldn't care less.
The only person I know here is Imogene, and I only came because she threatened bodily harm on me if I didn't. And I knew she wasn't playing around.
Not to mention, Imogene was about 5 sheets to the wind and I was having to work to keep her from falling in the fire while she did some kind of dance to the music that was blasting out of the surround speakers of the back porch.
She had found herself in some poor schmucks lap and hadn't got up since. She was currently laying sideways on him and counting his beard hairs to everyone's amusement. I was just trying to not die of boredom.
The house we were at was ginormous. Not sure who the owner was, and neither did Imogene. She was a friend of a friend and heard about it tonight and demanded we go.
Apparently famous people in California show up here all the time, and this was the first large party of the summer that everyone that was someone was talking about.
The elaborate mansion was so over the top it was almost annoying. Or maybe that was just kind of mood I was in today.
Deciding to walk away from the fire before I started to smell like smoke, I picked up my drink and began to wander around the property.
It was on a golf course so there was tons of little trails and hills everywhere. I took a small paved trail until I saw a path cut off and go into the woods, seeming to lead to somewhere.
I made it out into an opening, that had a small gazebo right in the middle of a field that was covered in wild flowers. The lightening bugs lit up a path to steps into the gazebo, and there was a single wooden, white bench swing in the middle, and I was immediately tempted to sit down. So I did. Looking up I noticed a string of market lights that lit up the small space and made it feel..homey.
Leaning back and creating a small swing, I looked around me and took in the scenery, knowing this would have been somewhere the boys and me would have loved to play at when we were little. God knows we would have made up endless games with our grass stained feet carrying us everywhere.
Thinking about them still made me sad, but not as much as before. I still missed them, but had been seeing them more often now too.
I didn't go home for spring break, but RJ and Baker had both come here to California instead. They had stayed for the week and we had the best time. Except for the night Baker was almost arrested, but none of us were honestly surprised by that.
At least, not me.
I spent the week showing them all my favorite spots and the best places on the beach to catch the biggest waves. The hung out at my work place at night with me and Imogene fell in love with both of them, of course. They thought she was a hoot, and I think it made them feel better about me living here now that they had been here.
Baker was even considering transferring here, so he says. But I know that won't happen. He loves his mama and town too much to ever move this far away from them.
We hadn't mentioned Harry the whole week they were here, but it was painfully obvious we were all thinking about him not being here. And Edge.
Our group of 5 was basically a 3 now, and I prayed that it didn't keep dwindling. I wasn't sure I could handle it if it did.
I was so distracted by my thoughts that I didn't hear the footsteps of someone approaching until they were basically right up on where I was sitting. I jerked to attention and nearly stood up when I saw a guy standing there.
