Madden's POV
18 years old
TW, gun use in this chapterIt was April, and the last day of school before spring break. Harry, me, Baker, and RJ were all heading to the Outer Banks for a week together. We got lucky that our spring breaks fell on the same week and we couldn't wait, and definitely weren't going to waste our week just staying at home.
"I'm getting so many girls while we're there Mads, I can't even wait." Baker said to me while I was loading my back pack with my books from my locker, he was practically bouncing with excitement beside me.
"Yes, I just can't wait to see how many strange girls are going to be coming back to the house with us every night. Between you and RJ it'll be like a damn brothel." I gripe.
Baker just laughs. "You know you're still our number one girl, though. They'll be in and out before you know it, and never seen again."
"Thank God for that." I throw my book bag over my shoulder and Baker and I head for our last class of the day. "I'm so ready to get out of here I can hardly stand it."
School had been stressing me out so much lately, and I was so tired of all the studying and testing that came with senior year. So many applications and SAT scores and things to worry about. I couldn't keep up with it all and was so excited to not have to worry about all of that shit for the week.
"Me and you both." Baker says as he grabs my book bag from my shoulder and carries it for me down the hall. "You ever get Edge talked into going with us?"
I let out a big sigh. "No, he's still refusing to go."
When we made these spring break plans, we had of course asked Baker to go with us, but he had said no. He said he would be too busy to come with us, but I had no idea what he would be doing and he refused to tell me. No amount of begging or pestering had been able to change his mind.
"He's been so fucking weird lately, I don't even know if I really want him to go." Bake says as we take our seats in the classroom and wait on it to start.
"I hate to say it, but me too. He refuses to talk to me and doesn't even act like the same person anymore. I don't know what his deal is."
"He and Harry would inevitably end up in a fight too if he came, you know how Harry feels about him since that night happened at the library."
"I know." I say, agreeably. "Harry didn't want him to go from the start but it just felt wrong to go somewhere with all of us and not ask him to come too. Especially with it being our senior year."
Edge had made the decision to not go to college, much to his parents dismay. He said he wanted to join the army or travel, he wasn't sure yet. I had no idea he ever even had an interest in either of those things, and I don't think he really did. He just was so lost in his own head I think he just wanted to get away from everything.
Including us.
Baker just shrugs. None of the boys had been the biggest fans of Edge since the night he had a meltdown on me after studying in the library. I still didn't even know what had started the whole thing.
I had simply asked him if he wanted to go to the bonfire with me where Baker was and he completely lost it. Asking me why would I want to go anywhere with my classmates, they were all assholes. None of them cared. He hated them, he hated the guys who hurt me. I was stupid for still going around at our school.
It was like a floodgate of insults came out of his mouth and he just couldn't stop. He told me all the things he hated about this town, it's people, himself, and even us. His best friends.
