AuroraI didn't know what I was thinking. One thing led to another and I found myself front seat of Marvin's car and driving off without Zach and Marvin. God I wished I hadn't seen their faces once I drove off, Marvin was in disbelief, but from Zach, it was yet another facial expression I wasn't used to.
All I knew was I couldn't just stand there helpless and watch what was happening back there. I wasn't sure what Harry was thinking pulling the gun on Zach and Marvin but it wasn't like him. Something else was going on, aside from Watermelon Sugar.
I remembered what he said once he was shouting at Marvin and Zach when they tried to cool him down. They tried telling him that despite what Arthur did they were still going to figure things out but he told them that wasn't the reason, that it had been something else "his problem" he called it.
Hearing him say that, something clicked inside of me. I wanted them all to stop arguing and settle the situation properly but it wasn't just that, it had to do with Zach and my argument the night before. He was ready to leave this whole thing altogether as soon as things started to get bad but I wasn't. I refused to leave behind the Detectives, Leo, and Harry for them to deal with all of this themselves. I wanted to help them stop this as much as they did. They and this city deserved better.
We were already getting back on the highway once reality clicked and I had no clue where I was even going. That was also when my attention shifted that there was also someone else in the car, Harry. His feet sat on the dashboard as he moved them every now and then as if he was following a beat. He hasn't said anything about what I did as he stayed quiet watching the road.
"Stop the car." I look beside me to see Harry looking away from me as he grunted out his first words since I took the car. I wasn't going to listen to him but I didn't have a plan on what to do next so I found the nearest street and pulled over the car as he wanted.
Seeing I pulled over he finally looks at me as if I had been one of his men that failed to do what was asked of him. "Get out," he orders taking off his seatbelt waiting for me to follow his lead but I don't. He sees this and scoffs at himself before making eye contact with me, this time with a more frustrated face. I wasn't fazed and I was sure to show him that, I wasn't backing out of this.
" No, I'm not going to. All of this is as much my problem as it is yours. I made it as soon as I stepped into your bar. I know I haven't been as much of a help as I wished I was, I mean Arthur got the larger sample of Watermelon Sugar because I wasn't more careful-
"Are you some sort of masochist? You can't feel responsible for everything you can't control, but have it your way." he says with more of a lighter tone in his voice, he was actually joking with me.
"You serious? I can come with you?!" I turn towards him smiling in disbelief as I couldn't contain my excitement. I couldn't believe he was letting me come along with him. Though I didn't know where we were even going, I was glad he let me have this.
"Yeah don't make me regret it, and you better not get in my way alright? Your gonna have to look after your own ass. I mean you are older than me, right?" He joked obviously mocking me, but I didn't let it get to me. I was a year older than him but Harry had a level of maturity and brains I don't think I'll ever have. In the end, he and I lived completely different lives.
" So where am I going?" starting the car again and with a better attitude I await his directions for our next location.
We continued the car ride with little conversation as he continued to direct me until we reached a familiar street, 8th Ave where Leo's Connivence store was.
Parking the car we get out walking along the sidewalk which was so much busier than the last time I came when it was late at night. Crowds of people walked back and forth throughout the streets leaving little to no space between each other. Harry stood tall beside me but I'd catch him ever so often looking around his surroundings.
