"This is my commitment, my modern manifesto. I'm doing it for all of us, who never got the chance."

*don't play a song yet

"I promise I'll text you when I land and whenever I'm available. There's still a three-hour difference guys." I watch as the taxi driver loaded my last bag into the trunk of his car and sends me the last signal telling me he was ready to go. I took the time to say my final goodbyes to my mother and father as I set off to go to the airport to meet Detective Zach Hartwell.

I still couldn't believe I would be going to New York City with an all-known narcotics investigator. All thanks to my report on the drug lords in New York.

All year I've been researching and writing about the large drug operation that ran in downtown New York. I've had my fair share of research in this division but this one goes deep, way more things were being hidden than what was barely on the surface. I just know there's more to it and I'm eager to find out what exactly it is.

Given that I was in a whole different state I was still able to find information that was enough to compress into a short report. From what I know, two sides are running in downtown New York, the East and West. They both are operated by their people that have workers who process, package, and eventually ship the drugs out within their territory and other points in the world. Although I'm not completely sure who these people are, I know that they too are being controlled by something or someone bigger. This person has much more power than the two sides combined. They were able to run this whole scheme right under the police's noses and with no high figure of authority in their way. Some police departments chose to be neutral towards the situation and even some are in on the whole thing, wanting some of the dirty money.

Once I finished and published my report to a local reporter, a detective from our department here in Los Angeles reached out to me and asked if I would like to go with him to New York to do further investigation in the city. The opportunity was too good to pass up, I would've gone anyway on my own if my parents would've let me. I'm 22 years old, live on my own and they still try and find a way to control every aspect of my life.

To get them to agree to let me go, I had them sit down with the Detective and have him explain what exactly we were going to be doing, where we were staying, and other information. Once they were okay with it I was already packed and ready to go, a whole year of writing, investigating, and in an amazing city.

The department we were supposed to work with is neutral and is located on the East side. Although they chose to stay to themselves they still have a job to do and decided they needed to create a case for the excessive drug operation in the city. That's where the detective and I come in, with our outside information and their knowledge of the city, a case is already made halfway.

On the plane with Zach, I started to think more about the whole investigation and what happens when we learn more about this case. Who or what will get hurt in the end? Will the sides merge as one or continue to be apart? The controller of all this, do they just go to jail, or do they get a free ticket out due to their connections? I try not to worry myself since we're not even there as of yet, but I'm ready, ready to face whatever is out there. I'll see you soon New York.

"Sometimes it feels like I've got a war in my mind. I want to get off but I keep riding the ride. I never really notice that I had to decide, to play someone's game or to live my own life and now I do, I want to move."
