HarryThere I was anxiously waiting for Evanstine to come back into the interrogation room. After they got me from the motel they drove straight to the West side Police Department and shoved me into this room with no explanation. I could sense this whole thing was a setup since everyone was told not to go into this room, and to ensure I wouldn't escape he made the police officers cuff me to the table extra tightly before they left.
The small boxy room was depressing and left me to process and know what my next move is. Arthur wasn't smart to have planned all of this by himself. Sebastian had to be involved. What were they planning? For a while, only anger clouded my thoughts and my only concentration was the scratches left on the table from the handcuffs before me. People who have been in here thinking of ways they could've avoided this.
It didn't take long until Evanstine came back into the room all high and mighty looking as if he's scored the jackpot. As he entered, in one hand he carried a wooden chair that was placed across from me, and in the other, a clipboard filled with papers on it. He happily sat on the chair making sure to watch me as he did so, I didn't even have to look up at him feeling his gaze on me. I keep my head bowed at the table not having the energy to stare at him again.
"If you don't mind, I invited your East side buddies to join us for the cross-examination. I think they're gonna like what we have here today." He says to me. He was only inviting them for laughs, whatever he had he wanted to make sure everyone saw.
Detectives Charli and Marvin then walked into the room but not with the same expressions that I left them with. They looked disappointed almost ashamed of what they heard. Charli couldn't even look me in the face when she walked in. They think I did this, that I killed that man. I mean they shouldn't be so shocked, they knew what they were getting into working with a gang leader, and they knew the risks.
"I remember you very well Lynx. I'm guessing your hustling days are over down by the Cape Cod Club. Now, you're a big-time gang leader so I hear, congrats." He's taunting me, making me feel like I'm less than him. He knew I wasn't comfortable but yet I still feel the big smirk on his face. "I'll just put in this cd since you have nothing to say. We found this in the guard's room and I'm sure you will remember once you see it." He puts on the television after putting in the cd and grabs the attention of the Detectives that await for the video to play. From the look of the envelope that was on his clipboard, I already knew what it was, and I immediately look away.
"What is all of this Evanstine?" Marvin nervously asks while Charli stands next to him also confused. The sound of the video started to play shortly right after. The grunting and groans filled my ears and I wanted nothing more than to shut them out and channel all of the memories away.
"That's you, isn't it? How old were you back then? 13 maybe 14? That fat pig is Hank and that's the reason why you wanted to kill him. That's why you shot him earlier this week and finished off what you started once you saw him today. It's because of what he did to you. Answer me!" I bawl up my fist slamming it onto the table finally staring him in the eyes. He was happy to see this, happy to know what used to happen to me back then. My eyes moved toward Charli and Marvin to see their reactions and they had the same pitiful look I was used to once people found out what happened.
"I'm sure the hospital bed is ready now and the nurse will take care of your wounds. You two can take him over there, later movie star." A cigarette now placed in his mouth he waves goodbye to me as he exits the room following the Detectives. Embarrassment was all that I felt, the quietness of them walking me to the room just made it even worse. I couldn't take back what happened in the past and it'll always be a part of me, forever.
We reached the infirmary and before letting me in Charli pulls me aside to unlock the cuffs from my hands but I knew she also wanted to talk.
"You need to tell us what you know Harry, Ace wouldn't have taken you if you didn't know anything. What are they planning?" She asks lowly still on edge at what she just saw in the room.
