"I'm at a friend's house," Hinata said trying to mask the fact he is freaking out.
"You brat! Did I say you could go to your so-called 'friend's' house?" His father said anger oozing out of each word.
"No, but he had something of mine and when I got there it was really late so I decided to stay the night."
"Whatever. Just make sure to get home by dinner. I'll have a surprise for you~" Hinata's father hung up leaving a scared Hinata. He knew his father. Whenever he had a surprise it was never good. All they did was torment Hinata in his dreams. They scared him so, so much.
Hinata's head went through all the possibilities of what Father had in store for him. Nothing was going to be able to help him now. There was no stopping the inevitable. Before he knew it, he was trembling and barely able to breathe.
Daichi was right next to him in an instant saying assuring words and running a hand through his hair. The whole team knew Hinata liked people petting his hair. For some reason, it was extremely calming for him. Hinata would never admit it, but he might be touch starved. The only time he gets touched is when his parents abuse him. He needs affectionate touches, but his most favorite kind of touch is when someone pets his head.
Sooner or later, Hinata settled down as to where he was only sniffling and a few tears leaked from his oh so sad eyes. The eyes that always had that happy gleam in them. The eyes that always shined when talking about volleyball.
Daichi was still next to Hinata petting his head. He was worried -- no scared for Hinata. If anything caused him to have a reaction like this, it must be serious. Daichi would love to be here every time Hinata had a breakdown like this. He would love to know that he could be there for him.
"What happened?" Daichi asked gently.
"M-My father called me. H-He said h-he had a s-surprise for me. I-I don't want the surprise!"
Daichi was kinda terrified at this point. Hinata's parents sound like a-holes. He doesn't know how Hinata has gone through all this on his own. He should've told someone! He should've told his team! They could have helped him!
"It's going to be okay."
"No, it's not! I have to go back home for dinner."
"I will not allow it! You are staying here with me!"
"Bu-"
"No buts. I have made up my mind."
"What about your parents?"
"I'll tell them. Once they hear about the situation, they'll understand. Right now, they are on a trip, so we'll tell them when they get home."
Was Hinata hearing this correctly? Did Daichi really want Hinata to move in? He could barely contain his happiness. His once sad eyes were now gleaming with happiness. He jumped into Daichi's arms crying the happiest tears of his life.
Daichi returned the hug smiling. He has never seen Hinata this happy even while playing volleyball. Oh, how he would give anything in the world to see this side of Hinata every day in his life.
They were like that for a while. Hinata never wanted to leave his savior. He mentally added this to the list of great things Daichi had done for him. Daichi, on the other hand, never wanted to leave the happy sunshine. He loved seeing him like this. It breaks his heart even to think about what had happened earlier.
They were both lost in their own thoughts when something popped into Daichi's head. He pulled back a little so they could both look at each other and he smiled softly at him. He knew Hinata probably wasn't going to take this well. "Hey Hinata?"
"Yeah?"
"You know you're going to have to tell the team, right?"
