"What do you mean by too?"

"Its another long story."

"I have too much time. Carry on."

Flashback

Another year went by as we hid comfortably from that godforsaken army.

The three of us were walking back from our homemade shooting range out on the woods.

Pat said that even though I'm able to shoot a gun, I would have to practice shooting at far away targets.

We were in the alleyway that I've grown so accustomed to, when a voice suddenly echoed from the entrance.

"There he is!"

"Get him!"

Guards dressed in red lunged towards me. I started backing up.

Bang!

The soldier nearest to me folded to the floor with a shot straight to the back of his head.

"Tord, run!"

I froze. "But What about you guys?!"

"Go to our range in the forest! Wait for us there!"

Bang! Bang!

Two more soldiers fell. The army was closing in.

"If we're not there by sundown, run into the forest. You know how to survive now!"

And so I ran. Faster than I've ever ran before.

I looked back. I shouldn't have.

It looked like they were out of ammo, the army surrounding them.

Bang!

One more gunshot rang out. Not from my allies, but from the enemy.

I let out an anguished cry as Pau fell to the ground. It looked like Pat had surrendered.

I ran into the forest, knowing damn well they weren't going to come back to me.

It was up to me to survive now. All alone, with nothing but a pocket knife, my gun, and my warm, red sweatshirt that was given to me by the two closest people in my life, who were now gone.

Timeskip

Days passed. Then weeks. Eventually they turned into months which turned into years. I've lost count. I can't even remember what country I'm in anymore. I've moved so much.

I came upon a break in the woods to find a small shop. Family owned, probably. That doesn't matter. Food is food.

I walked in the safety of the brush until coming around back. The door was open.

Strange. The back is usually locked in stores.

Its a small town, I reassured myself, they must all know each other here.

I peeked into the doorway to see a small room packed with boxes.

A storage room.

Due to my past experiences I knew this was a storage room.

Not exactly safe with a secret dumpster exit, but it'll do.

I snuck inside, looking for cover, in case somebody were to come back here.

I didn't even hear a person.

Maybe its already been robbed, I thought to myself, slowly walking to the front of the store.
