I awoke on the first full day of my first year at
Hogwarts. There are no traditional schedules at Hogwarts— Charms 9a. Wonderful. That's very helpful.
I looked at the watch my mum gave me, 8:30a. "Great." I sighed. I hopped out of bed and ran to the mirror, hastily threw makeup on (I borrowed more than I was allowed to wear, and brought it with me) and got dressed with my robes. I looked, and felt, like a Ravenclaw. I smiled to myself, and walked briskly out of the dorm, I passed through the common room and said hello to my fellow house members.
As I rounded the corner out of the dorms, I was looking down hoping for some direction on how to get to Charms class, just then.. *thud*. I looked up at the exact moment I ran into him... the cute ginger haired boy from last night. I felt the blood all rush to my face. The impact caused both of us to drop our books.
"Oh no. So sorry!" I cried.
"Oi, no worries sweetheart!" one of the twins replied. I wasn't sure which cute red head I had collided with.
"I'm Fred, the one who was starring at you last night," he admitted confidently, yet sheepishly with a smirk.
"Oh.." I said.
"Sorry about that, my brother pointed you out to me on the train actually. I hadn't seen you then really, and I wanted too.." he backed off his speech when he noticed I was as red as a Hungarian Hornbelly.
"Why me?" I asked.
"I was told you were.. unique & quite erm.. pretty," he replied behind his charming smile.
I blushed again, "You're well spoken for only being a third year," I knew that was stupid.
"Uh.. I just mean you're only 13 and I'm just 11, normally kids our age are using words like 'cute'.. pretty just seems like an older boy word.." I knew I was making an idiot of myself."Well I'm just using the only word I can use about you..." he paused.
"Oh, uhm, yes.. Mary Fudge." I replied with a hesitant smile.
"Well Mary," he smiled back at me, "I will let you go since I see you're frantically looking for..."
"Charms class.." I said confused.
"Right down there," he pointed me toward the end of the West Tower and from there I was able to find my way to East Tower and the charms classroom. I made it class with 1 minute to spare. Good first day impression.
Charms class was as fun as I had hoped. It was especially charming (did not mean that) to see our Head of House, Professor Flitwick in his glory. I was taking notes and matching his wand movements, he even gave me house points for being the first student to master some of the movements exactly. My head was elsewhere however, focused on that adorable third year boy, Fred.
The rest of the classes seemed to putter by. I followed along and recited the incantations and poured the potions ingredients, but I was annoyed. I'm a good student, I love learning. I shouldn't be thinking about some BOY already, at the mere age of 11. Pfft.
After my day full of classes and meals with Luna in the great hall, it was time for a study session. I decided to sit on the steps at the end of the corridor of the West Towers. Was this because where I was seated on the stairs, I could see all the Gryffindors walk in and out of their Common Room, while also being seemingly unaware of this? I would never tell.
I studied for my already favorite class, Transfigurations, for a while. Then I noticed the intricate details of the West Tower, and since I always carried my sketch book with me, I took it out and began to draw the tower. I didn't notice it then, but that Fred Weasley kid was in my eye sight, so he was becoming part of my drawing.
I quickly changed creative direction when I finally noticed him in the drawing. I panicked at how detailed his face was. "Oh no, was I starting at him THAT long?!" I asked myself. "I couldn't have his perfect face memorized already, could I?"
I continued on with my drawing when I heard joyous laughter from down the corridor, it was the twins, they were walking toward me. "They are going to turn into the common room," I thought to myself. But they didn't. They kept walking toward me. I assumed they were just going to pass and walk right up the stairs. THEY DIDN'T. They stopped at my feet. My left foot was hanging down on the floor, so they began to gently kick it.
"May I help you boys?" I questioned, looking up from my pad with a smirk on my face.
"You sure can,"George jeered.
"Oh, how is that?" I said looking back down at my pad.
"I saw you drawing down here, and it looked like you were trying to capture me, the better looking brother," George laughed.
I blushed and replied, "Well actually, I wasn't trying to capture either of you. He was just in my eye shot," I gestured toward Fred.
"Oi, I reckon you meant to do that," Fred smiled.
I didn't reply, only smiled.
"Let us see!"
"No, it's not done yet!" I begged.
"Please," Fred just had this adorable way about him. I begrudgingly let them see my drawing pad.
After a moment of silence from them I spoke up, "I told you it wasn't ready!"
"I'd love to see it then!" Fred exclaimed.
"What?"
"Oh yeah, it's wicked good!" they both replied!"
"Really?"
"Oh yeah, fantastic already!"
"Oh... thank you!" feeling awfully proud of myself. They both smiled, said "see you around!" and walked away, George nudging Fred the whole way down the hall.
I finished my drawing, packed up my books and headed for the common room to tell Luna and the girls what just happened!
