Fallon was stood at the top of the garden stairs, calmly watching all of the tents, pop up bars and decorations being hauled into vans- the whole day being packed away before her eyes.
As grateful as she was for the thought that went into into it all, she was glad to be done with it after the events that perspired in its glory.
With a deep, stress relieving sigh, Fallon turned promptly and with purpose, heading back indoors.
Kirby was sat neatly by the piano, tinkering a melody that could only be described as - well there were no words for the poor girl's lack of musical talent.
Chuckling and shaking her head, Fallon walked over and sat beside her.
"God what a prodigy!" she said sarcastically, emphasising her wit with a liza minelli style jazz hands.
"Oh shut up, just because you're talented at everything" she smiled and turned to kiss Fallon lightly, wrapping her arm around her tiny waist.
"I love you Fal, you know that right." Kirby said, her voice sliding into a more serious tone.
Looking slightly confused, Fallon replied,"Of course I love you, why would you ask me that?"
Kirby turned her eyes away from looking into Fallon's and took a breath.
"Look. I don't want Monica to come between us. I'm just scared i'll lose you to some silly family scheme or whatever," Kirby confessed, standing now.
Fallon looked at her girlfriend in disbelief. Why was she suddenly concerned about this now?
"Kirb you knew from the moment you came into my life that my family is messed up, but whatever happens, I love you."
Fallon stood up also and took Kirby's hands into her own, gripping them softly with reassurance.
"Monica told me that you dated" Kirby said defiantly.
Hers and Monica's previous relationship had briefly crossed Fallon's mind earlier when the three of them were sorting stuff out. She knew it was only a matter time before Monica would start getting jealous of her new beau and start her manipulative schemes.
"Really? You think I'd go back to her?" Fallon retorted.
Kirby shrugged ," I dunno you'll probably get bored of me at some point, you get bored of everyone!"
"That's not fair," Fallon removed her hands from Kirby's, throwing them up in he air dramatically and stepped backwards a little, "I had to fire gabriel, he couldn't get my champagne order right, i mean for gods sake he really did fu-"
"Fallon i'm not just talking about the staff?!" Kinda interrupted.
"Then what?" Fallon challenged.
"You push everyone out because you're too scared of commitment. You ditch the moment things gets real. I'll admit, so far you've been open with me, but i can't help but think that it's only a matter time before you chicken out on me too," Kirby's voice wavered. She immediately regretted it all.
Fallon but her tongue. But not with rage. She knew she was right, but she was too proud to let herself be humiliated by the person she loved most in the world.
She went to speak but choked on her words as all the emotions came bubbling up to the surface all at once. She left the room without a word and didn't look back.
Kirby closed her eyes tightly. returning to sit on the piano stool, head in hands. It was all her fault. She knew she should've just left it alone.
"Geez, looks like someone didn't have a 'gay' time today," Sam wondered in from the garden with a plate full of strawberries and cream. Of course. Food was a priority.
The red head glanced up at him and rolled her eyes.
"Did you really steal those leftovers of the truck outside?" Kirby looked at him, unimpressed, knowing the answer already.
"Erm of course." Sam bustled in and sat down next to her. "I couldn't let it go to waste now could i, i'm being economical," he insisted.
Kirby laughed a little, then immediately continued with her sad and regretful state.
"Okay, now what's wrong," Sam asked," come on you can tell me, we're basically siblings at this point."
Kirby pondered on it and then ended up telling
him what had happened. If she was being honest, she could probably use some advice on what to do to make things right between her and Fallon.
By the time Kirby had finished talking, Sam had finished his plate of strawberries and was dabbing his mouth overly daintily with a cloth napkin.
"Well," he said setting the napkin down,"I don't wanna be involved in this."
"Hey, what happened to siblings? I need advice Sam!" Kirby yelled in frustration as he swiftly made his way out of the room.
"sAm?!!" Kirby yelled again. But he was gone.
Fed up, Kirby felt her head fall once again, this time hitting the piano keys, the clashing notes ringing out loudly.
"You know you gotta go apologise," she heard a voice coming from the doorway. She lifted her head to see Crystal, who she assumed had heard everything she had just told Sam.
"I know" Kirby replied with reluctance.
Crystal smiled lightly and vanished, her heels clicking rhythmically as she walked away down the hall, getting quieter and quieter until Kirby was once again alone.
"I know" Kirby repeated with a knowing sigh. She knew what she had to do.
