The fabric of the dress she wore fanned out around and against her legs as she walked down the hallway. She had always been one for dressing up; even as a child, but it was something she had taken to doing as an adult as well especially for her profession. She was a spy, gifted in espionage tactics. In fact she gave out her real name in the utmost confidence that no one would ever find her should she not wish it so.
However she had seen many women in the profession of espionage seemingly lose their femininity in places. They stopped wearing dresses, skirts… They stopped putting on makeup unless it was called for.
Ada had never wanted to lose that part of herself. Her looks had been her pride and joy as a teenager and that pride had carried over as she had grown. She refused to lose that part of herself, no matter what.
And in this refusal to lose her femininity she began to don the trademark red dresses she was know known for among her colleagues. The red was bold, it showed confidence it showed that she was not one to be trifled with. And really, the dark colors that were traditional for spies to wear were dull in comparison.
She was arrogant, and the red reflected it.
Now she donned the fancy dress she was to wear in her mission Europe, the red fabric’s monotony broken only by the gold thread that shaped the butterflies that ran along the sides. Her heels clacked against the floors as she picked up her pace slightly. The gold was also a bright change from the dark coloring associated with espionage.
Ada was different. She would not lose her femininity. She would not allow herself to be pushed into the shadows the entire time.
One day this would drag her to her doom, but for now she would don the red clothe and gold thread with pride. She would carry on with her life with the fierce stubbornness and arrogance she had always had and she would come out on top.
Ada had no doubts about that.
