"ARE YOU OKAY?" Abby nudges her softly in the side. Evelyn looks at her, a bit confused as she had been so caught up in her thoughts, trudging a couple feet behind the rest as they exit the aquarium toward the marina and the boats. She quickly understands what the hell she's on about, and nods.

She shifts the position of her backpack, pulling at the straps to even out the weight. "Yeah," she tries to sound assuring but she knows she fails because she can hear it. And so can Abby, but Evelyn does nothing to try and assure her otherwise — instead she keeps her eyes far ahead, trudging slowly next to them. It's colder outside that she had imagined. As soon as they step out of through doors, a strong gust of wind hits them. Evelyn closes her bomber jacket, wishing almost that she had a hat. Feels like it should be warmer.

A handful of seconds later, Abby speaks quietly but sincerely. "I'm sorry she did that. That wasn't right of her."

Evelyn continues walking, eyes trained on her feet and the worn boots she's been wearing for so very long. She should try and find a newer pair, she makes a mental note to remember that. "Yeah."

"Hey," Abby stops in her tracks, placing a hand on Evelyn's shoulder as she passes her. Evelyn stops, too, and turns around to meet her eyes. Abby cups her face, forcing her to look at her. "That was really fucked up of her. You're right to be angry. But know that this doesn't change anything between either you and me or you and Owen. He loves you all the same. As do I."

"I know," she nods, because she does know and hasn't doubted that for even a second. What weighs on her is the fact that around her, relationships that have lasted for as long as she can remember, are crumbling for seemingly unnecessary reasons. She's angry with Mel — this could have all been avoided if she had just kept her promise to never tell. And the conflict between Owen, Abby and Mel is some of the dumbest stuff Evelyn has ever had to witness, genuinely so childish. They all want the same thing, and seeing all this go down around her; Evelyn feels sort of hopeless.

She doesn't have much hope that it's all gonna be revolved. But for now, she tries to push all of those thoughts aside. They need to get Lev. That's it for now — the rest she can focus on later.

Abby would very much like to continue this conversation, it is clear as day that Evelyn is far from okay but she too knows that now is not the best time. Nothing ever really seems like the best time, though. There's always something that gets in the way, even herself has been the problem once or twice and she knows that. Perhaps she's more afraid of fucking this up than she had anticipated, because as they walk side by side toward the water front, a lump forms in her stomach and she feels heavy. Stupid. Like she's not good enough. She has no idea how to comfort her.
