EVELYN WAKES WITH A START, inhaling a series of panicked breaths as she sits up in her bed, rubbing her eyes as she calms down. Her heart beats abnormally fast in her chest as she looks around her to find herself, quite simply, in her room. Just that knowledge makes her instantly calmer. She glances over at Leah's bed expecting to find her, but she quickly remembers that she's not here and won't be for another week.

She glances over to the empty space on the second half of her own bed, closing her eyes — because maybe if she wills it hard enough, Abby will just magically appear beside her, and just her presence would be enough to calm her racing heart and bring a harmony into her soul she has not known since august.

Alas, the bed beside her remains untouched and chilly and she eventually decides she has to get out of this bed and this room. So desolate, so quiet, she feels the walls closing in on her, crushing her her spirit as she hastily dresses and rushes out, shutting the door loudly behind her. Thoughts racing, she thinks of where to go. She is not hungry for food, but for company. Sort of delirious, she moves through the stadium with determined steps to the medical ward.

It is scarily quiet so early in the morning. The last time she was here, she was getting patched up after a mission that didn't go so well on her part and the entire place had been buzzing with life, wounded soldiers getting the care they needed. Now, the soft sound of talking spilling through the open doors and the eventual sound of beeping machines.

"What are you doing here?" Mel's confused voice brings Evelyn out of a train of thoughts she didn't even realize she had been lost in.

"I'm not sure," she replies lowly, blinking a couple times as she comes back to the moment. "I guess I wanted Nora but I just remembered she's at the hospital still."

Mel nods, genuine concern coloring her expression. She places a caring hand on Evelyn's shoulder, voice deep and grave. "Do you need anything from here?"

Evelyn looks at her hand, placed firmly in a grip on top of the hoodie she wears. She frowns, uncertain of how to answer that question, but eventually she does shake her head. "No. Not really. I just wanted Nora."

"Okay," she nods, taking a step back and clasping her hands on her baby bump. "Hey, uh, I haven't really seen you in a while. How have you been?"
