I turned around, my tail hitting an unseen wall. An unwanted growl escaped my throat. As I turned around I saw it, a light at the end of the corridor. I took a step toward it. A thousand thoughts raced through my head but one stood out more than the others. It's a test! I stopped in place as I shivered at the thought of going into the darkness took hold. Ice trickled down my spine as I took a step in the opposite direction. My foot made a pebble rattle underfoot and there, a whisper? A call? A voice? Begging on hands and knees. I took another step making the voices louder. I took another, then another, making the voices louder and more irresistible with every step. Calling me away, saying danger, an enemy. But one call, quieter then the rest told me the one thing that kept me going. It's all a lie. This was the one that preyed on the weak, prevented them from struggling, moving, getting away. But in this instance, it saved me, stopped me from going to the light, the trap. I shut my eyes, turned around and ran straight for it, the darkness. The voices swamped over me making it hard to move, to think... Then silence, absolute silence. My tail twitched and I was falling, straight down, into the blackness.
I woke with a scream.
"Now tell me again what happened." Bailey said comfortingly. I was still slightly embarrassed that I had woken her when I screamed but what was done was done.
I explained what had happened, again. and she sucked in a breath. I looked at her. "What?" I asked. Her gaze was full of worry as she said. "Well... You know what I'll just take you to her.
We walked up farther into the tree spiraling and twisting. Bailey and I were still in our pajamas and Bailey didn't seem concerned that someone could see us. She just pulled me by the arm through twisted hallways. She stopped in front of a tall door with crystal embedded inside the silver and gold swirled door. She knocked and when no one answered she knocked again. Finally she yelled. "Trilla I have to talk to you." I heard a soft groan as someone inside walked to the door and opened it making the light flicker a different direction. My wings were quivering for some reason but I ignored it shaking it off as a random twitch.
The air in this room seemed to change every few feet like I was walking into a swamp, then a desert then a pine forest then a snowy cliff. It was disorienting and annoying but I bared with it.
The air where we stopped in was damp and cold. I didn't know were it came from and I was not too happy when Trilla directed that I sit in a chair next to her. Bailey told me to relax my mind as Trilla pressed her palms against my head. But how could I relax when I didn't know what was going on.
When I couldn't contain my interest anymore I asked. "What is going on? What's she doing?" Bailey nodded and understood then said. "She's checking you for the ability future sight." When I looked at her still more confused she continued. "Visions of the future."
I looked at her with disdain. "So this is the person that delivered my prophecy. I thought you said the ability was useless?" Bailey blushed but Trilla didn't seem bothered by the comment at all. Though she looked like stone as her eyes were blank. Bailey looked at me and said her tone was worrisome. "You better not say that when she's able to hear you.
I nodded. "But didn't you say that it was useless."
"Well it depends it can be useful because we get prophecies like yours. But it can also be really annoying too like some of the prophecies like I said a while ago are utter nonsense." I nodded, again. Of course some of this blew over my head but I understood enough to piece together what she said.
In that moment Trilla came out of her trance and said her teenage voice shaking. "Your aura is so strong it's amazing. You have the touch, a touch with the ability unlike mine and even my late fallen mentor wasn't as good as you could become and she had a millennia to train before her murder.
