Y/N's P.O.V
I woke up, stretched, and immediately took in the state of the room.
Messy.
Blankets twisted. Clothes scattered. It looked like sleep had happened here, but not much else.
I hesitated.
Then got to work.
It started small. Straightening one bed. Picking up a shirt. Folding something that absolutely wasn't mine. But once I started, I couldn't stop.
Thirty minutes later... maybe forty... I stepped back into the doorway and looked at the room again.
Better.
Not perfect. But better.
I let out a quiet breath and headed into the main area.
"Well, good morning," Peter said, lounging like he hadn't moved in hours.
"Morning," I replied, scanning the room. "Where is everyone?"
"They had an appointment," he said, completely unbothered. "We decided someone should stay behind and keep an eye on you."
"And you lost that argument."
"I drew the short straw," he corrected. "Tragic, really."
I sat across from him, but my attention drifted almost immediately.
The book.
It sat on a nearby desk like it had been waiting for me.
I stood without thinking and walked over.
"Egon said you had a nightmare," Peter said casually. "Care to share?"
"No," I said, already opening the book.
That was the end of that.
The pages felt... familiar.
Not in a way I could explain. Just—
Right.
I flipped through slowly, scanning for structure.
No table of contents. Figures.
But then—
Something different.
The handwriting shifted slightly.
More personal.
Journal entries.
I leaned forward, drawn in.
"I still don't understand how you can read that," Peter said behind me.
I ignored him.
The entries described experiments. Magic. Controlled attempts, careful notes, recorded outcomes.
Whoever wrote this wasn't guessing.
They were studying.
Testing.
Learning.
And then—
Something slipped through.
"My father has banished all magic from the kingdom. Any who consort with such forces will be put to death."
I froze.
"...Huh."
"Okay, that's new," Peter said, leaning in slightly. "So we've got a kingdom. I'm already not loving where this is going."
I kept reading.
The entries became more focused. More intense.
Less about experimentation.
