In Sabines painted room, she and Ezra sat intently listening on the floor to the recorded disks that had once belonged to Ezra's parents. A pile of watched disks were laying in a pile at Ezra's feet. So far, they had found nothing of importance. Kannan had grown bored and went to go check on Ezra. Sabines mind began wandering to the point where she asked a startling, and very direct, question." Why don't you want your parents to be alive?" Ezra looked at her stunned. Kannan heard Sabines voice and pressed his ear to the door." I want them to be alive more than anything." He replied." Then why were you afraid of knowing? Why were you so determined that they were dead?" Ezra began to grow angry." Do you know what position that would put me in? I am a Padawan now. If my parents were alive, I would have to pick between my master and my parents. My new life, or the life I wish I had grown up with and that is an impossible choice." Sabine, always curious asked another intrusive question." Who would you pick? Let's say that they are alive, and Kannan was on one side and your parents were on the other. Who would you turn to?" Ezra stood and Kannan grew nervous on the other side of the metal door, but Ezra was to aggravated to notice he was even there." I would turn to Kannan without hesitation." Kannan let out a small, inaudible sigh." Then why did you say it was an impossible choice?" It was Ezra's turn to sigh." Because the consequences of my choice would either break me or my parents. If they happen to be alive, they would have been prisoners for 8 years. Then they would come to find out that their only child would rather learn to be a Jedi and live with a ragtag group of rebels than....."" Than what?" Sabine prodded." Than come home." Kannan knocked on the door.( seemed like the right time)"Come in." Came Ezra's soft reply." I came to check on my troublesome Padawan." Ezra's smile didn't reach his bright blue eyes. On the way to kannan's room, Ezra having decided that he needed a break, Kannan noticed that his apprentice was really quiet and deep in thought." Ezra, I'm not proud of it, but I listened in on your conversation with Sabine." Ezra looked up." So now you know why I was afraid of knowing the truth and now you know who I would choose." He looked down again." Ezra, you know, as much as I love you, I wouldn't keep you here if you wanted to go to your parents. I want what's best for you, and I also want you to be happy." Ezra look taken back." You...you mean it." Kannan nodded solemnly. Ezra shook his head." No, I wouldn't leave you. I couldn't." Kannan was overcome with happiness and pride." I don't believe I could have asked for a better Padawan." "And I don't believe I could have asked for a better master." Kannan placed his arm over Ezra's shoulder just as they reached kannan's room." Today's lesson, since all you've done was watch disks, is going to be a little bit harder than normal. I'm going to show you how to meditate."
