The Mistakes We Made

Remember This Day

Ben walks into the door with his bag on his back as Miranda was walking out. "Hey." Miranda says grabbing her bag.
"Hey." Ben says kissing Miranda on the cheek. Then he bends down and picks Dani up. "Hey baby girl."
Dani starts giggling as he tickles her stomach.
"Ben I have to go, do you want me to take her or do you want her to stay here with you?" Miranda asks as she walks towards the door.
"I can keep her here with me. It will be a daddy daughter day."
"Alright." Miranda walks to Dani, "give mama a kiss."
Dani kisses Miranda on the cheek "bye mama!" She calls out.
"We are going to have fun today" ben says smiling as he walks up the stairs."

It's been 2 years since Dani was born and it has changed both Ben and Mirandas lives. There were a few complications during the pregnancy but at the end of all of that they had a healthy beautiful baby girl and that's all that mattered to them. When Dani was first born she had a heart defect and Miranda and Ben were told that in the future she might need a heart transplant which she got when she was one. Miranda became overwhelmed after she heard her news about her daughters heart, but Ben being the awesome husband he is was there every step of the way to help her get through it.

FLASH BACK
It had been 3 weeks after Dani was born and 2 weeks after they heard the news about her heart. Miranda wasn't doing good. She was very overwhelmed and her OCD started to get worse. One night she broke down and explained everything to Ben.
Miranda walks into the bedroom and she saw Ben rocking Dani in his arms. "Hi mamas baby." She said kissing her on the forehead, "I can take her and you can go hop in the shower." She said grabbing Dani out of his arms.
"Alright I'll be quick" Ben says as he got up from the bed.
After his shower Ben walks into the bedroom and sees Miranda crying quietly on the edge of the bed. "Hey what's going on?" Ben asked rushing to her side.
Miranda jumped a little because she didn't here Ben come into the room. "Nothing Ben I'm fine."
"Miranda." Ben say unconvinced, "something clearly is wrong, what's going on?"
Miranda took a deep breath "When they told us about Dani and her heart I got so scared. I'm a doctor and I know about all of this but when it happens to your own family it's different. What if something goes wrong or she needs surgery sooner then expected. What are we going to do?"
"Miranda you're scared." Ben cut her off,"and that's ok because we are going to do this together. Whatever happens Dani will be ok and we'll be ok. Dani is strong just like you."
Miranda looked up at Be with tear filled eyes "I love you."
"I love you too." Ben gave Miranda a passionate kiss.
Ben and Miranda both get into the bed. Miranda looks inside the small crib next to her to see her sleeping child before turning off the light and drifting off to sleep cuddled up next to Ben.

Present Day
"Hey Bailey." Richard says walking into her office.
"Dr.Webber." Miranda responds looking down at her desk, "you need something sir?"
"I have craniotomy later on did you want to scrub in?"
"As much as I would love to I can't. I have a tun of paper work and meetings to go to all day. Thank you for the offer."
"Oh ok then." Richard turns and walks out of her office
Miranda felt like her day was going very slow. When it finally came time to take a break and eat lunch she decided to call Ben because she was missing both him and her daughter. "Hey Ben." she says as she opened her lunch container.
"Hey, is everything ok?" Ben asked a little worried
"Everything's fine just wanted to call and check up on you guys. Where is Dani?"
"Oh I just put her down for her nap. Are you sure everything is ok Miranda?"
"Yes Ben i'm fine" Miranda was interrupted by her pager beeping, "damn it I have to go i'm being paged to the pit."
"Ok I love you."
"Love you too" Miranda quickly hung up the phone grabbed her lab coat and walked out of her office.
"What do you got?" She says as she walked towards the ambulance.
"Janice Keen 24 unrestrained passenger in a head on collision she complained of back pain and lost consciousness on the way here. She was riding with her husband when the accident happened" the EMT explained
"Ok Shepherd and Schmitt you take them" Miranda yelled as she rushed over to the next ambulance.
"Jamal Keen 26 restrained driver minor injuries and complained of neck pain"
"Where is Janice is she ok?" Jamal asked sitting up from the Gurney.
"Sir we're going to take care of you both." Miranda said as she was slightly pushing him back down in the gurney, "Helm you're with me."
They rolled Jamal into the trauma room and he started seizing. "Let's get him on his side!" Helm called out as they all rolled him over."
"Page Koracick and tell him to meet us in CT." said asking a nurse as they rolled Jamal out of the Trauma room.

The rest of the day went by fast for Miranda which she was grateful for. She finished up her last piece of paper work and let out a long sigh. Miranda got up from her desk grabbed her back and put on her coat. She couldn't wait to go home and see her husband and daughter.

Miranda walked into her front door and saw Ben and Dani both seating on the couch with the TV playing. As she was hanging her coat up Miranda say Dani running around the couch towards her. "Mama!" she yelled before running into her arms.
"Hey baby girl." Miranda bends down and picks Dani up as she walks towards the couch where Ben was sitting,"shouldn't you be sleep?"
Dani giggled.
"I tried to get her to sleep but she wanted to wait for you." Ben explained as he kissed Miranda.
"Dani it's time for you to go to bed." Miranda said looking into her daughters big eyes. She saw her facial expression change as she began to shake her head. Miranda couldn't resist the look on Danis face."ok fine how about ice cream and then we got to bed?"
"Yay!" Dani hopped of the couch rubbing to the kitchen pulling Miranda along with her.
Ben and Miranda both looked at each other and laughed. Miranda sat Dani on the counter and opened the freezer "Do you want vanilla or chocolate?" she asked holding up both containers of ice cream.
Dani pointed to the vanilla box.
"Vanilla it is. Your daddy is the only person who likes chocolate ice cream" Miranda whispered as Ben walked in.
"Hey I heard that, and there is nothing wrong with chocolate ice cream." Ben says defensively.

They all laughed and ate their ice cream. After they finished they all headed upstairs to get ready for bed. Miranda got Dani ready while Ben was getting himself ready. "I just put her down she wanted me to read two books tonight." Miranda says walking into the bedroom.
Ben chuckled. Miranda went into the bathroom and closed the door so that she could herself ready for bed. When she walked out the bathroom she say Ben laying in the bed looking sexy which he always was. Miranda crawled into the bed and cuddled up next to him. "I love you." Ben says as he wraps his arms around Miranda.
"I love you too." Miranda replied as she cuddled up closer to him. They both cuddled together until the drifted off to sleep.
