Before thinking about it my body was already moving in the direction Jago went.
After grabbing his book and closing up the shop my mind thought it'd be a great idea to follow him. But now I'm having second thoughts. The night is black like coal and the fire?Jago.
He's about 10 feet in front of me. He's aware that someone is behind him but he hasn't even turned once to see who it is. I stop occasionally and let him walk further to confirm I'm not following him. He's been walking for about ten minutes and we're slowly reaching the dangerous part of this city making me wonder where he actually lives.
He turns to a dark ally way and I walk faster to reach the turn and not loose him. As I'm about to turn, I'm slammed into a body. Shocked I look up and see an angry Jago.
"Why are you following me!" His voice matches the angry look on his face.
Stunned at his little setup I realize he'd known he was being followed by me.
"I.. I.. erm.. You forgot your book." My hand jams the book on his chest. "And I wasn't ...um following you."
He face is pulled into a serious look as if he's concerned about something. He sighs,"Go home, Cora."
I nod eagerly and look at my surroundings where I find I'm completely lost.
He laughs. "I'll take you back."
But before we start walking, my eyes are blinded by the bright headlights of a black car.
"Shit. Cora run." Jago whispers."What? No I'm not going to run. That car probably wants nothing to do with us." I reason.
He looks at me."Look Cora. I know you think this world is a happy, carefree, safe place. But it's not like that. Can you understand that? Please go before anyone sees you." He pleads and the car stops right next to us.
"Jago. I'm not going anywhere." I say with authority in my voice. I'm not a kid. He can't just tell me to do things and expect me to listen.
Jago groans and says."Fine. But get behind me."
I'm about to ask why but the men that get out of the van answer my question. They look ruthless and mean.
Jago steps in front of me when he sees the men.
"Jago. So nice to finally see you again." One of the men say with sarcasm evident in his voice. Jago nods his head to acknowledge him.
"Ah, and who are you hiding behind you Jago." The man says with a smug smile. That smile is no smile of a friend.
"What do you want Mark." Jago counters.
"Right now. I want to see the pretty lady your hiding from me. I won't hurt her. For now." Mark's voice sends chills down my back. I don't want him to see me.
Before I know it. Jago steps out from in front of me and I instantly shiver. It could be because of the cold weather or maybe the way Mark's eyes are looking at me. His eyes roam my body and he doesn't even care to hide it. My shield is gone. I turn to look at Jago but his eyes are glued to the ground.
"Wow. Your a pretty one aren't you dear." Mark says and his partner wolf whistles in agreement. I feel naked and I want to scream but I don't do nothing. Worst of all, Jago does nothing.
"Now what do you want Mark." Jago's voice is filled with anger.
Mark stops to think about it and then his eyes travel down my body agian. Without instinct I step behind Jago to shield Mark's piercing black eyes.
"Her."
I feel my heart stop beating for a second. I want to say something. To say no. But now all I can hear is my pulsing heart crash in my ears. I'm praying Jago doesn't agree to this. Just like he did with his first demand.
Please Jago. Don't do this. Help me. I don't want to go with him.
I can only speak in my thoughts. How I wish Jago can hear them to help me out.
"No." Jago says and I can breath again.
"She doesn't want to go with you. In fact she doesn't have to go with you."Mark's face twists in anger."No? What happened last time you said no to me. Do you remember Jago? Because I'd be happy to tell you again."
Jago's breathing is accelerated and his knuckles are white from balling his fists. I can tell he's trying to stay calm. But all I'm trying to figure out is what happened last time.
"Do not speak of it." His voice is forced. Desperately wants to stay calm.
I place my hand on his back. I don't know why but maybe to tell him that we're in this together. It seems to calm him and his breathing slows.
"Do not speak about what? Emily?" Mark retaliates.
Not a second later I hear a book fall to the floor and Jago soon punches Mark square in the face. Mark is taken back by shock but attacks back. They're going at it and I'm staring in shock when I feel strong arms start to drag me. I realize it's the other man that accompanied Mark and I instantly scream. His hand is quick to clamp over my mouth but I see Jago look at me and it looks like he's about to explode. I need to do something. I want to kick this man. To bite at his hand. To try and escape but my body won't cooperate with my brain. All I can do is cry. I'm too stunned to make any movement and all I can hear my loud pulse crash in ears.
The man opened the door as I hear what sounds like a crack of a bone. The man shoves me into the back of the van and I see Jago over the shoulder of this man and Mark on the floor. Before I know it the man's eyes roll and he slowly falls to his knees in front of me. I stare in shock as he falls on his face. A knife is plunged into his back and it's moving! The knife is moving plunging itself deeper into the mans back . How is this possible? Maybe my mind is hallucinating in the fact that a man was just killed in front me but I look at Jago and he's sitting breathless 5 feet away and I notice his hand. It's moving. Side to side in the air as if he has the knife. Almost like he's controlling it. But thats impossible. It cant be him. Who had the knife? I look down at my hands and wonder If I did it without thinking. But I didn't. I couldn't. I would never be able to do that. To kill a man. So who did it. Jago is still moving his hand and I look at the knife which is moving in the same way Jago's hand is. Not possible. Jago's eyebrows are furrowed in anger and his eyes are filled with hatred.
"Jago." I whisper through my hoarse voice and trough the tears that are running down.
Jago's head snaps up to me and his eyes widen, making his hand movements stop. As does the knife. He runs a hand through his hair as he stares at Mark lying limp on the floor to the dead man just below my feet and then to me.
I try to form a coherent sentence.
"H-How..? Who.. Who killed him?"Jago gets on his feet and comes toward me. His hand reaches for mine to help me out from the van but I snatch my hand back. Hurt flashes in his eyes. But again I could be hallucinating, afraid of this boy and afraid of what just happened.
He deeply sighs."This is why I told you to run." He ignores my question.
Annoyed I raise my voice. "Jago. What the hell just happened here. Who killed him."
His eyes search for mine and I want to shrink. But I hold my stand.
"There's things you don't want to know about me, Cora."
-ahh! So Jago killed a man but how? This is another of his abilities that you'll soon find out. Sorry for cliff hanger whoops. Any ways thanks for 400 views!
