Jaylee's POV
My hands began shaking with fear and my heart started pounding in a very uncomfortable rhythm as I slowly began approaching the house that I had currently abandoned. I glanced from left to right repeatedly as I hid behind a tree and searched thoroughly, making sure I didn't miss a single thing. I had noticed that there was no sign of human presence in eye sight, so I kept quiet and crouched down in hopes I could hear something.
Silence.
I couldn't hear anything, not even the wind. It was odd how quiet it was in this area after what had just happened to the house. Were the boys okay? Were they even alive? Did something bad happen to them? Am I too late?
I was dreading the answers to my questions as I clenched my jaw and tried to prepare myself for an upcoming fight. I don't know what's going to happen from here on out, but I'll do whatever it takes to find the guys since they did whatever they could to keep me alive. I owe them this. Especially Louis. He chose my life over his. That's a change of heart I'll never forget.
My ears perked the second I heard laughter coming from the distance, making me wonder who exactly it was coming from. I made a quick decision to crouch low and slowly move towards the right side of the area, trying to see if I could spot anybody.
My heart was racing violently against my chest but I couldn't stop myself from curiously checking the scene. I needed to know if the enemy was still alive. And if they weren't doing anything it meant that they had won. But didn't Louis say there was a victory point? A place you go to when you win? So why would someone be standing here doing nothing but crack jokes?
I narrowed my eyebrows in confusion as I hid myself behind a massive bush and peeked through the limited holes. I started hearing chatter coming from the distance before I moved a bit closer to see if I could make out what they were saying.
I had finally spotted a group of guys standing near a car, acting extremely causal as they held a conversation.
They didn't look familiar at all, but it was strange how they were standing near the house that we were in. They were on the opposite side of it, leaning against the car with their arms crossed and guns to their belts. They didn't even seem like they were ready to fight. They just looked like they were normal guys having a conversation. This is strange. I thought everyone was on edge? Why aren't they?
"Do you think they'll get out of there in time?" One asked as he looked up at his teammate while leaning on one hip.
"No. It's impossible. We chained them up so good they're never getting out. It's a certainty they're going to die." Another one responded.
I narrowed my eyebrows in confusion as I stared intensely at the one who was leaning against the car with a cigarette between his fingers. You're smoking right now? Are you kidding me?
"Once the timer goes down to a minute we gotta book it so that we don't get blown to bits. It's gonna be a big explosion. There's no way any of them will survive it." He added as my eyes widened.
Was he talking about my guys? My friends? Are they all stuck somewhere in that house?
"No one will ever remember the Dark Riots again. Soon we will rule over this state and get whatever we want, whenever we want!" He cheered before the others joined.
The Jacks. That's their leader. I could tell by his posture and the way he looked so confident. I could tell by the way the others looked up to him. Ugh, this guy sucks. He already sounds like a terrible person.
I then realized that they were definitely talking about the guys and that they're somewhere stuck in that building. I have to sneak back inside and hope to God that none of the Jacks are inside there protecting the door.
