No way. So that’s Light Yagami’s plan. He’s even worse than I thought. But I have to save Misa, Rem thought, staring at Light with blank cold eyes.
It was two days after that fateful day when Rem discovered Light's plan by seeing Misa's lifespan change, and because of L's rising suspicions.
She looked emotionless as always, her tiny pupils staring at Light as he walked towards the living room where the task force were. Watari stood besides Ryuzaki, who was sitting in his usual position on the chair, while Soichiro Yagami and Matsuda sat on the couch. Aizawa sat alone in his chair. Light settled on the only free space available - standing beside them all.
'Good morning, Light-kun,' L said, scooping ice cream into his mouth. He seemed to be chewing on the teaspoon thoughtfully. The chief of the taskforce stared at him as he held the spoon in awkward fashion. They never got used to his eating habits, though he eats every second of the day. In fact, he eats more than he sleeps.
'Morning, Ryuzaki.' Light said.
'I think we should confine Miss Amane again.'
Shocked gasps filled the room.
'But Misa Misa has done no wrong! We've already proved she wasn't Kira last time Ryuzaki!' 'Matsuda, L obviously has his reasons.' 'Chief! You don't think she's Kira do you?' 'N-no! Of course not!' 'Then ...'
Light grinned as the rest of the task force talked about killing Misa. The shinigami should have figured it out by now. So, Rem, what’ll it be? Are you willing to save Misa? Ironic, isn’t it, that she’s the one who told me how to kill shinigami in the first place. And you’re the one who told her.
‘Stop talking for a second..’ Ryuzaki’s black rimmed black eyes look up to Light from where he sat awkwardly his knees to his chest. He licked the cake off the spoon and continued thoughtfully, ‘You look...happy, Light-kun.'
'What? Of course I'm not -'
'If you are that willing to let Misa go into imprisonment again, Light-kun, then do you also think Misa is Kira?’
His large eyes stared at Light, but Light wasn’t easily shaken. Rem lingered at the doorway, waiting for Light’s answer.
JUST GO ALREADY! Yelled Light in his brain. You lingering helps no one!
‘No, but=’
‘But?’ Ryuzaki interrupted suddenly, his eyes widening. Light started feeling uneasy and worried.
Damn that Shinigami! Hurry up already! Kill him!
‘It is true that there are some suspicions towards Misa, but I honestly do not think she’s Kira.’ Light said, making his voice sound confident.
‘I don’t think she’s Kira either, Light-kun.’
‘What?’ Light demanded.
‘But then why do you plan to put her into -’ Matsuda’s yelp was interrupted by Ryuzaki.
‘May I speak?’ All the members of the taskforce’s faces turned towards him again. ‘I don’t suspect Misa of being Kira. I suspect her of being the second Kira. I already know who the first Kira is.’
Shocked gasps filled the room. A trickle of sweat drizzled down Light’s creased forehead. Damn it, Rem! Why are you still there? Misa is suspected of being second Kira! They’ll find the truth in less than 40 seconds now!
