Our story begins one clear morning on the open sea. A ship is sailing on the sea, full of sailors singing songs about a mythical race called merpeople and the God of the ocean's sons.

A young-looking blue hedgehog stood at the wheel, laughing and singing along with the sailors. The blue hedgehog's long quills were tied behind his head and he wore red running shoes with a white strap over and a golden buckle on each side, holding it in place. He also wore white gloves over his hands, a precaution Mobians of his position should do.
By the boy's feet there was his pet dog, a brown cocker spaniel with a red collar around his neck. The dog was very loyal to his royal master, and obedient.
Stood by the mast, and by stood by I mean clinging to it for dear life, there was another hedgehog, this one pink and female. Her short pink quills and bright red dress flapped in the sea breeze, and she was very cold.
"Isn't this amazing, Amy?" Called the blue hedgehog to the pink hedgehog, "The wind in your quills, the salty sea air."
"M-maybe if-if water d-didn't petrify me, S-Sonic," the pink hedgehog, who was named Amy, responded, "Th-then I m-might find this l-lovely."
"The water's not THAT choppy, Princess Amy," laughed an echidna sailor with messy red hair, "It's actually very calm."
"He's right," smiled a young, yellow fox sailor with two tails, looking into the calm water, "It seems King Bowser is pretty calm today."
"King...Bowser, Tails?" Sonic asked the fox,
"Wait wait wait wait," The echidna giggled, unlike the blue hedgehog he never chuckled, "You seriously don't know about Bowser, king of the sea?"
"Oh, Knuckles," Amy said to the echidna, "He knows about him, he just doesn't believe in him. And I don't either!"
"I never said I didn't believe in King Bowser, Sis." Sonic retorted, "I said that I don't think he can control the way the ocean works, but I do believe him to be king of the sea."
"Oh, no." Sighed Amy, "Don't tell me you believe in merpeople too."
"Okay," Sonic shrugged, "I won't tell you."
What the sailors and Amy didn't know was that Sonic was right. A little mermaid popped her head out of the water when he saw the ship had gone. She sighed to herself and swam deep under the water, met up with her parents and swam to a very special place.
