"Katara, What's taking you so long!?"
"Just give me a minute!" Katara yelled back to Sokka from the bathroom, the only place in their apartment that had a mirror. Ty Lee had given her some makeup and hair products to borrow a couple weeks before the dance. Katara had also borrowed a silver A-line dress from Ty Lee's huge closet, adorned with ruffles and lace and ribbons. All of Ty Lee's other dresses were either pink or didn't fit. This silver one was a little short for Katara's liking, so with the black tights and heels she wore with it, she looked like a ballet dancer. It obviously wasn't what she was going for, but it couldn't be helped.
"KATARA!!! We need to go! Aang's here." Katara sighed. She quickly tied a ribbon into her hair and ran into the entryway of the apartment, then stopped in her tracks.
"I'm pretty sure you wore that at your middle school band concert," she said when she saw Sokka in a white button down that seemed too small for him. The sleeves were so short that you could see his elbows, and there was an embroidered tag that said, 'East County Middle School Jazz Band'.
"Well, In my defense, I have no one to impress," Sokka said as Aang blushed when he saw Katara.
"You look beautiful," he said.
"Picture time!" Katara's and Sokka's Dad and Grandmother walked up to them with a camera. First they took a picture of all three of them, then just one with Aang and Katara, while Sokka stood sheepishly off to the side.
"Aww," Gran Gran said, looking at the pictures. She glared at her grandson, "Sokka, you look ridiculous."
"I have nothing to prove." The three of them left the house and Sokka drove them to Four Elements high school. It was around 3:30. They were going to the school early so they could decorate.
"You're late," Azula said when they went inside the cafeteria. Ty Lee immediately dropped the paper snowflakes she was making and ran over to Katara, "I tried to stop her from wearing pink, but it fruitless," she sighed. To be fair, if anyone could pull off pink and red, it would be Ty Lee and Azula. Azula wore a luxurious red velvet dress that accentuated her curves, while Ty Lee donned a one shoulder, light pink chiffon dress.
"You two look great!" Katara said genuinely as Aang and Sokka hung up streamers and snowflakes in the gym.
"No, You look great!" Ty Lee exclaimed, "I do wish Toph were here though."
"She's never been enthusiastic about school dances," Katara said, "But it just feels wrong to celebrate anything without her."
"Well, we could go see her if we wanted to," Azula interrupted. The remaining four of them looked at her oddly.
"Well, it wouldn't be that hard," she continued, "We have an hour and a half before the dance starts. Ba Sing Se High School is a half an hour away. All we'd have to do is pretend we're going to a sports event, then find out where her room is, it's nothing I haven't done before." Aang, Katara and Sokka now looked at her like she was deranged, while Ty Lee squealed,
"Yess!!!! Let's go see Toph!" Aang shrugged.
"I guess we're going to Ba Sing Se High School." The five of them piled into Azula's red mustang.
"Children in the backseat," Azula said to Aang, Sokka and Ty Lee, after which she tore down the street and onto the highway.
