(back when kuroo was still a 3rd year)
kei was more on the quiet side, quieter than me and even kenma.
(i was kind of a mix between my two siblings. not as chaotic as yuki, but also not as quiet as kei.)
he liked doing activities by himself though. physical activities. like running, and swimming, any exercise you can do solo, he enjoyed doing it. he didn't have many friends and didn't really like being around other people so he refused to participate in any team sports.
he wasn't too interested in kenma, especially since he never seemed to be doing anything interesting to him anyway. he only noticed him slightly, because he knew he was important to me. and i was about the only person he really looked up to and cared about more than others.
one day i stayed behind a little too late, helping my orchestra teacher with something, and realized i had to rush home. unfortunately, it was raining, but i didn't care and ran all the way to the station, then all the way home
that night i fell sick with a cold from the rain, and had to stay home. and in all the frenzy, i had forgotten my violin at school. unfortunately i didn't notice until afterschool when most people had left.
so i texted yuki to take kei with her to the school and get it from the music room.
why didn't i just text my boyfriend to get it for me? because even after months of dating i still felt guilty asking him to do the smallest things for me. yeah, i know. pathetic.
yuki begrudgingly agreed and dragged kei along with him from his school which was conveniently close to her school.
they both realized they didn't know where the music room was and tried to call me, but i didn't pick up because i was completely passed out from exhaustion.
so they both decided to go to the gym in hopes of finding kenma because yuki knew he played volleyball and maybe they had practice. kei's ears perked up a bit when he heard of a sport, but realized volleyball wasn't very interesting from what he knew about it.
they headed to nekoma's gym together and cracked the door open a bit to see the entire team doing a 3 on 3 game. and the first thing they saw was kenma setting a ball perfectly to kuroo, who spiked the ball with no remorse, breaking through the blockers on the other side.
kei's eyes widened as he took in the beautiful form of kenma as he jumped up to have his fingers meet with the ball, then pushing it at just the right angle and with just the right pressure to come in contact with kuroo's powerful hand.
kenma's hair floated around him as he finally landed back down to the floor, his cat like eyes constantly on the ball as it darted across all areas of the court.
kei watched in awe by the doorway as kenma performed something similar to his set before, but this time right before everyone expected him to set the ball, he used his left hand to push the ball to the other court in a split second.
a setter's dump... kei thought to himself.
...sugoi.
suddenly, both the setter he was looking at and himself were brought out of their concentration at the voice of yuki.
"kennnn-sannnn!!"
everyone in the gym looked over to stare at the little girl in the middle school uniform, standing at the entrance of the gym boldly waving her arm in the air.
kei felt his misery intensing even more, the awe he felt from before slowly dispersing, leaving him back to his deadpanned faced self.
his older sister might not have remembered, but onee-chan specifically said: "whatever you do, please don't talk to kenma. try to avoid him at all costs." and here they were, doing the exact opposite.
