My Heart is Set

I have not forgotten why I first set out

to a be a writer

and a poet

who knows deeply what she is about

I have not forgotten my spirit

full of conviction

or my heart

full of wonder

And I have not forgotten my charge

the drive and purpose

that each day

I live under

No, I have not forgotten

but I sense something urgent

An urgency to write

and write faster

For there is something beyond me

Something that matters

I have heard the call

and yes I will answer

for words on a scale

bear the meaning of their crafter

So,

with all excellence and passion

I will give everything I can

until the completion of this purpose

or until my body is swallowed by the land
