Lucy’s POV

Once I gained my composure I put my hands on JJ’s chest and gave him a shove. He reluctantly pulled away.

“Lucy, I’m sorry. I don’t know what came over me.”

“It’s uh… its fine.” I said.

“I told you we’d take things slow and then I go and kiss you.”

“JJ, don’t worry about it. I would’ve stopped it sooner if I didn’t want it to happen.”

“I don’t want to mess this up and lose you again Luce.”

I went to reach for him but he pulled away and walked out of the room. Even though JJ knew me like the back of his hand, I knew him better. I knew it was best to let him go and deal with it on his own. I went ahead and decided to take a nap. While I was sleeping, I felt a dip in the bed. I turned over to see JJ sitting on the side of the bed. Probably debating whether to go sleep on the couch or sleep in the bed.

I reached over and put my hand on his back. He turned to look at me and I tried to give him a reassuring smile that it was ok, but I was still half asleep so I’m sure I looked stupid. He moved so he was sitting up against the headboard .

“Move closer.” I mumbled and he obliged so that he was facing me in the bed.

“I’m sor-“ He began but I cut him off by putting my hand over his mouth.

“Just stay with me m’kay.” I said closing my eyes and putting my arm around him.

I fell back asleep almost instantly.

~JJ’s POV~

Once she was asleep I moved us so she was laying on my chest and me on my back. Luckily she was still a heavy sleeper and wasn’t bothered by the movement. I started running my fingers through her long brown hair. It always used to instantly relax her. If it were possible she’d bury herself in me even more. I turned the TV on to have some noise in the room. I tucked one arm behind my head and kept one around her.

I must have dozed off because the next thing I knew she was screaming out in her sleep and she wasn’t lying on top of me anymore.

“Lucy? Hey wake up.” I said shaking her.

After a few tries, she shot up wide awake. She was panting and looking around at her surroundings.  Once she seemed to remember where she was she brought her knees up to her chest and put her head down.

“Lucy are you ok?” I asked, she only nodded.

“Do you want to talk about it?” I asked and she shook her head no.

I wasn’t sure what to do so I sat there and waited for her to say or do something.

“I’m sorry. I wish you didn’t have to see that.” She said as she looked up. Her eyes were red as if she’d been crying.

“Do you do that often?”

“Not recently. It used to be worse.”

“Can I ask what the nightmares are about?”

When she looked away I knew my answer.

“They started as soon as we were split up, they were so much worse to the point where I’d wake up and my pillows would be torn up. Over the years they had gotten better and it wasn’t so bad. Then they stopped all together for a few months. They started back up about two weeks before you showed up on my doorstep. Then they stopped and it appears they’re starting again.” She said wiping her forehead.
