After losing my dad it made me realize how precious our time really is on this earth. I realized that all the times I pushed JJ away was the time I could’ve spent making up for time lost between us. They say everything happens for a reason and I’ve lately become a big believer in that. And it started in forgiving my adopted mother for the life she gave me. At the time I hated her for taking JJ from me but now I believe the separation only brought us closer together.
I held JJ’s hand as little Jack wobbled over to his grandfathers grave and placed a rose on top of his stone.
He turned toward JJ and me with a smile on his face and clapped at his one year old self for the job he did.
JJ scooped him up and tossed him in the air. Just the sight of those two made my heart smile.
“You ready Lucy?” JJ asked, turning towards me.
I paused for a moment to say goodbye to my fathers resting place. A subtle breeze blew past us as if my father were telling me to go.
“As long as you, I’m ready for anything.” I smiled.
And just like that the three of us left, happy and ready for a bright future ahead for all of us.
