As you entered the secret facility Maria had brought you to you couldn't help but notice how it was definitely Fury's style. Even if Maria might have adopted it, it was almost like he had pulled it off himself.

A doctor came rushing to Natasha while Hill gave him an assessment.

"She'll want to see him first though."

"Who?" you asked and Maria led you further into the base, taking you to a room where, you should have guessed it, none other than Nick Fury laid on a bed.

"It's about damn time," he emphasized and you shook your head as Natasha had her wound examined. "Lacerated spinal column, a cracked sternum, shattered collarbone, perforated liver, one hell of a headache."

"Don't forget your collapsed lung," the doctor added.

"Oh, let's not forget that," Nick nodded. "Otherwise I'm good."

"They cut you open, your heart stopped," Natasha countered.

"I should have seen this," you shook your head and took a seat at the table, "Let me guess, Tetrodotoxin B."

Fury nodded. "Slows the pulse to one beat per minute. Banner developed it for stress, but it didn't work so well for him so we use it for other things."

"Why all the secrecy?" Steve asked. "Why not just tell us?"

"Any attempt on the director's life had to look successful," Maria explained.

"Can't kill you if you're already dead. Besides I didn't know who to trust."

You raised your brows and scoffed, rolling your eyes. "Didn't know who to trust? Nick that is absolute bullshit, you think any other group of people would risk their lives and reputations to save your ass and your legacy along with the human race? I didn't think so." you said, leaning back in your chair frustrated. "Stop with the act. We know you trust us and that's why you gave Steve the flash drive. Because you knew we'd work together. You knew we'd figure it out and by anything but God's freaking grace we did. So cut the crap, I almost died around six times in the past two days. I'm too tired for this shit."

Everyone stared at you curiously while Natasha was the only one with a smile on her face.

"Don't mess with (N/N)'s sleep or she'll bite back." she chuckled and you couldn't help but laugh, the rest nervously joining in.

"Okay, what are you waiting for, I got what I needed to get out. What's the plan?" you asked with a sigh.

"Pierce declined the Nobel Peace Prize. He said, Peace wasn't an achievement, it was a responsibility. See, it's stuff like this that gives me trust issues." Fury said and you gave him a warning look as if not to test your boundaries right now.

"We have to stop the helicarriers," Natasha said firmly.

"I don't think council's accepting my calls anymore," Nick said while opening a case with what looked like three microchips in it.

"What's that?' Steve asked.

"Once the Helicarriers reach three thousand feet, they'll triangulate with Insight satellites becoming fully weaponized." Maria started to explain, leaving forward into the table.

"We need to replace its targeting system with our own." Nick finished.

"One or two won't cut it. We need to link all three carriers for this to work because if even one of those ships remains operational a whole lot of people are gonna die." Maria added and you all nodded.

"We have to assume everyone aboard those carriers is HYDRA. We need to get past them, insert the server blades, and maybe, just maybe, we can salvage what's left..."
