A couple days after the trip to the cliff, we found ourselves, unsurprisingly, in Elijah's living room, with him and Janelle. Sam was out with some of his friends, and Klaus was upstairs. It bothered me that he seemed to be avoiding us, and I could tell it bothered Janelle, too, but neither of us said anything.

"What are we doing next weekend?" Janelle asked absentmindedly, playing with a pillow. Her head was in Elijah's lap, and he was playing with her hair. Dean and I sat on the couch across from them, his arm around me, my head on his shoulder.

"I don't know," I answered. "Can't we figure that out next weekend?"

Janelle sent me a glare before going back to staring at the ceiling. "Come on, we haven't done anything exciting this summer. We have to do something."

"The first day of summer Dean almost killed you guys," Elijah almost laughed. "Isn't that exciting enough?"

"That wasn't the first day of summer, it was the last day of school."

"Fair enough." Dean laughed. "So what did you have in mind?"

"I don't know, maybe..." Janelle trailed off, biting her lip as she thought.

"How about a party?"

I sat up when I heard Klaus' voice, watching him as he desended the stairs. Janelle sat up, smiling when the older Mikealson brother entered the room.

"So nice of you to join us, Klaus."

He smiled at her. "Of course."

"A party, brother?" Elijah asked, making Klaus smile.

"Ah, yes. A party."

"Here?"

"No offense, Klaus, but we've spent most of our summer here. If we're looking for excitement, that's not it."

Klaus wore his infamous smirk, which made him look like a bit of an asshole. It worked for him, though. Good genes ran in the Mikaelson family. "Who said anything about the party being here?"

"Where is it?" Dean straightened up a bit. Klaus intimidated him, and he made it fairly obvious.

"A short while away. A friend of mine is getting engaged, and having an engagement party, and we've been invited."

"We? Or you?" I asked.

"We."

"Are these words yours or theirs?" Elijah asked suspiciously, giving his brother an odd look.

"Does it matter?" Klaus shrugged off the question.

"An engagement party," I repeated. "Doesn't that mean we have to dress formally?"

"Indeed it does."

I made a face, looking at Dean at the same time Janelle's face lit up with a smile.

"We'll be there!" she smiled before the rest of us cruel give our input.

"Splendid!" Klaus grinned, his hands clasped together behind him. "I'm afraid I must be going now."

"Seriously?" Janelle pouted. "When are you going to stay and hang out with us?"

Klaus gave her a confused look, as if he wasn't sure what she meant.

"We've barely seen you this summer," I interjected. "What's up with that?"

Klaus just shrugged. "I've got to run," he said, and left.
